Renewal agreement: Effective April 1, 2021 to March 31, 2024. Signed on Sept. 15, 2022.

Wage adjustments:

Effective April 1, 2021: 2%

Effective April 1, 2022: 2%

Effective April 1, 2023: 1.75%

Shift premium: 10% for employee who performs duties of higher classification; 12% when employer designates employee to perform duties and take responsibility of higher classification for more than 5 days.

Paid holidays: 14 days, including Hamlet Day, Nunavut Day, National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

Vacations with pay: 1 1/4 days per month to start, 1 2/3 days per month after 2 years, 2 1/12 days per month after 10 years, 2 1/2 days per month after 20 years. Employees are not permitted to carry over more vacation leave credits than can be earned in 1 year and credits exceeding 1 year’s entitlement will be paid out in March. Every employee who is proceeding on vacation leave will be entitled, once in each year, in addition to vacation leave, 2 days leave with pay to travel between Kimmirut and destination, including travel on land or water.

Overtime: Time and one-half for work after regular hours; double time after 4 hours of overtime and for all hours worked on second or subsequent day of rest. May be taken as time off in lieu, maximum 15 days accumulation.

Medical benefits: Northern Employee Benefits Services Group Benefit Plan.

Sick leave: 1.25 days per month.

Bereavement leave: 5 days for death of employee’s spouse, common-law partner, child, stepchild, foster-child, parent, spouse of parent, brother, sister, grandparent, grandchild, father-in-law, mother-in-law, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, aunt, uncle, any relative living in household of employee. 3 days to attend funeral or memorial service of niece, nephew, cousin.

Seniority – recall rights: 24 months when employee is off due to occupational injury or illness covered by Workers’ Safety & Compensation Commission (WSCC) or absence from work of maximum 24 months resulting from injury or illness not covered. 30 days for leave of absence without pay. 12 months after layoffs.

Call-in pay: Greater of compensation at overtime rate for all hours worked or 4 hours’ pay at straight-time rate.

Probationary period: 6 months from when employee is first hired (employer may extend period by further, maximum 3 months) or 3 months after employee is transferred or promoted.

Discipline: Sunset clause is 18 months for records of disciplinary action taken against employee, including letters or notations of discipline.

Severance: 2 weeks of pay for first year of service; 1 week for each year of employment after first year, maximum 25 weeks’ pay after 1 year of employment.

Safety shoes: $200 per year for CSA-approved steel-toe boots.

Editor’s notes: Bilingual bonus: $1,500 per year when employer designates position as bilingual (English and Inuktitut) and when incumbent is able to demonstrate reasonable proficiency in both languages. Standby pay: 1 hour’s pay for each 8 hours on standby; 2 hour’s pay for each 8 hours on days of rest and general holidays. Winter bonus days: 1 day for every 5 consecutive nonoverlapping days of vacation leave which they liquidate between Oct. 1 and March 31 of any year, 3 days in any 1 year. Days must be liquidated immediately following vacation leave days during which they were earned. Discretionary leave: After 12 months of employment, employee will be entitled to take 4 days leave, with pay, each year at their discretion.
