Renewal agreement: Effective Feb. 1, 2020 to Jan. 31, 2025. Signed on May 31, 2020.

Shift premium: $0.80 per hour above rate for bracket 6 for lead-hands. Employees required to work more than 5 hours without meal period, will be paid at time and one-half for all worked greater than 5 hours until meal period is given. $1.50 per hour for all hours worked on Saturday (in addition to time and one-half for employees who work on Saturday when it would normally be day off). Time and one-half for work on Saturday (except where work regularly falls on Saturday, in which case employee will be paid if employee works on day off in lieu of Saturday). Double time for work on Sunday (except where work regularly falls on Saturday, in which case employee will be paid if employee works on day off in lieu of Sunday). Employee will receive higher rate for shift in department employee fills higher rated job for 2 or more hours. Bracket 6 plus $0.65 per hour for job skills trainers. $0.55 per hour for off-shift (majority of hours fall between 4 p.m. and 8 a.m.). Effective Feb. 1, 2022: $0.60 per hour. $0.55 per hour for employees performing job that requires them to work in Japan fresh chilled product cooler, in any carcass cooler, at Freezerco or in blast or general freezer. $0.55 per hour for employees performing job that requires them to work in pallet barn, as shunt-truck or gut-truck operator, shipping department, or maintenance employees who work outside between Nov. 1 and March 31. $0.80 per hour for QA technicians, HACCP monitors, HIP monitors. $0.75 per hour for employee who holds class 1 licence will and drives vehicle which requires class 1 licence.

Paid holidays: 11 days.

Vacations with pay: 2 weeks after 1 year, 3 weeks after 4 years, 4 weeks after 9 years, 5 weeks after 14 years, 6 weeks after 19 years. Employees may carry over 1 week of vacation from 1 year to next.

Overtime: Time and one-half for work after 8 or 12 hours per day; double time for work after 11 or 15 hours per day. Maximum 1.5 hours per day of overtime; 12 hours per 2-week period. Time may be banked, maximum 40 hours per year. Banked overtime not taken by April 1 of following year will be paid out.

Meal allowance: $10 will be added to employee’s gross earnings for that fiscal week if due to circumstances employer does not meal during second meal period (which will be one-half hour on employer’s time and supplied free of charge by employer).

Medical benefits: Employer pays 50% of premiums, employee pays 50% of premiums.

Vision: $400 per 24-month period.

AD&D: Employer pays 50% of premiums, employee pays 50% of premiums. Coverage of 100% of earnings, maximum $250,000.

Life insurance: Employer pays 50% of premiums, employee pays 50% of premiums. Coverage of 100% of earnings, maximum $250,000.

Pension: Employer contributes 3.3%, employee contributes 2.25% into DC HyLife Employees Pension Plan.

Bereavement leave: 3 days for death in immediate family (spouse of same or opposite sex, daughter, son, parent, sister, brother, mother-in-law, father-in-law, sister-in-law, brother-in-law, grandparents, grandchildren, foster-child, stepson, stepdaughter, aunt, uncle, grandparents-in-law). 1 day for employee who is asked to be pallbearer or to perform official function at funeral. Additional 2 days, without pay, for travel more than 500 kilometres 1-way from place of residence.

Seniority – recall rights: Minimum 6 months or equivalence of length of service to start; 3 years after 3 years of service for employees absent from work because of accident or sickness. 60 working days for employee accepting promotion outside bargaining unit.

Call-in pay: Minimum 4 hours of pay. For work performed on Saturdays, Sundays, general holidays, employee will receive guaranteed 4 hours of pay or pay for hours actually worked at applicable overtime rate, whichever is greater.

Probationary period: 90 days worked.

Discipline: Sunset clause is 18 months for disciplinary entries or adverse reference to employee’s conduct. Disciplinary entries or adverse reference may be used in disciplinary action for up to 24 months if similar incidents occurring within 18 months.

Safety shoes: Employer will provide each employee with 1 pair of quality safety boots or safety rubber boots each year and earlier due to wear and tear. Employees working in freezer, shipping/receiving departments or employees working outside will be provided with winter boots and replacement liners as needed. $200 per year (previously $175 per year) for employee who chooses not to wear employer-provided rubber boots.

Uniforms/clothing: Launderable, outer work clothing (oilskin aprons, oilskin sleeves) will be supplied to employees. Employer will supply rubber boots, hair nets, rubber gloves where required, to all employees.

Tool allowance: $600 per year for mechanical tradesmen of mechanical department.

Editor’s notes: Apprenticeship program: $1,200 for employees who successfully challenge Red Seal exam. Citizenship leave: Employees who have applied to become Canadian citizen will be given 1 day paid leave to take oath of citizenship.
