Renewal agreement: Effective April 1, 2019 to March 31, 2023. Ratified in January 2020. Signed on Jan. 29, 2020.
Wage adjustments:

Shift premium: Time and one-half for hours worked prior to 8 a.m. for spare operators, where operator worked late shift terminating one or after previous 11:30 p.m. $0.75 per hour for conducting classroom instruction for defensive driving. $0.20 per hour for mechanics instructing other mechanics. $0.35 per hour for licensed journeyman instructing or supervising apprentice. $0.75 per hour for providing training for full-time inspectors, dispatchers, ticket clerks. Time and one-half for hours worked in excess of 12-hour spread.
Paid holidays: 11 days including 1 floater day.
Vacations with pay: 2 weeks in calendar year following calendar year in which employee is hired, 2 weeks after 1 year, 3 weeks after 4 years, 4 weeks after 10 years, 5 weeks after 17 years, 6 weeks after 24 years.
Overtime: Time and one-half for all work in excess of 8 hours daily. Time and one-quarter for all hours worked on Sundays up to 8 hours.
Medical benefits: Employer pays 100% of premiums.
Dental: Employer pays 100% of premiums.
Vision: Employer pays 100% of premiums for $400 coverage every 24 months and $80 for optometrist check-up.
Paramedical: Employer pays 100% of premiums.
Sick leave: One-half day per month up to 6 days per year, granted as bank at start of each calendar year.
STD: Employer pays 100% of premiums for coverage of 75% of earnings, maximum of 26 weeks.
LTD: Employer pays 100% of premiums for coverage of 60% of earnings.
Life insurance: Employer pays 100% of premiums for $65,000 for each employee.
Pension: Contributory pension plan under Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System (OMERS).
Bereavement leave: 5 paid workdays for death of current partner (married or common-law), dependent son or daughter, including step-relations. 3 paid workdays for death of parent, sibling stepparent, other relative who served as employee’s legally recognized custodial guardian. 2 paid workdays for death of parent-in-law, child-in-law, grandchild. 1 paid workday for death of grandparent or sibling-in-law. 1 paid day to attend funeral as pallbearer for present employee, retired employee, former employee provided such employee is receiving long-term disability payments.
Seniority – recall rights: Greater of 3 years or service seniority.
Call-in pay: Time and one-half for employees called in on emergency to work on scheduled day off, unless on Sunday or statutory holiday, in which case one-quarter time will be added to time and one-half.
Probationary period: 20 weeks’ work during 6-month period.
Discipline: Sunset clause is 18 months for verbal warnings; 24 months for written warnings except those relating to conduct that is in breach of employer’s human rights policy; 36 months for suspensions except those relating to conduct in breach of employer’s human rights policy.
Safety shoes: $100 per year for CSA-approved safety shoes.
Uniforms/clothing: Employer pays full cost of uniforms for operators, dispatchers, ticket clerks, inspectors. Base amount for operators, dispatchers, ticket clerks includes: 1 jacket, 4 trousers/shorts, 9 shirts, 3 ties, 1 belt, 1 sleeveless fleece vest, 1 uniform cap or 2 baseball caps plus 1 toque, shoes/boots up to $160, 4 fitted gloves, every 24 months. Winter parka and trench coat provided every 60 months as requested. Base amount for inspectors includes 1 blazer, 9 shorts, 3 ties, 1 belt, 1 winter-weight jacket, 1 summer-weight jacket, 3 winter-weight trousers, 3 summer-weight trousers, 1 uniform cap or 2 baseball caps plus 2 toque, 1 thermal-insulated high-rise pants, 1 parka and hood, 2 turtleneck sweaters, and 1 raincoat every 36 months. 1 winter fur cap every 60 months. Employee may select $150 or $200 shoe/boot allowance to be deducted from base value of clothing allowance.

Editor’s notes: Licenses: No employee will be permitted to operate bus unless employee holds necessary licence in good standing. Employer will pay cost of licence renewal, together with cost of any written tests required by Ministry of Transportation of Ontario for fleet and facilities employees. Employer will reimburse each employee up to $125 every 3 years to cover cost of 1 medical examination that may be required. Traffic checks: Employees will be provided with vehicle to perform traffic checks when outside temperature is at or below 10 degrees Celsius.
