Renewal agreement: Effective May 1, 2019 to April 30, 2023. Signed on May 1, 2019.
Shift premium: $4 per hour, above regular journeyman’s rate for working foreman with 5 or more people under supervision (including labourers); $3 per hour, above regular journeyman’s rate for working foreman with less than 5 people under supervision (including labourers). $2.50 per hour on industrial sites where building trades council has secured agreements.
Paid holidays: 11 days.
Vacations with pay: 6% basic pay.
Overtime: Time and one-half for all overtime worked Monday to Friday inclusive; double time for all overtime worked Saturday, Sunday or legal and recognized holidays.
Medical benefits: Employer contributes $1.10 per hour to Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Insurance Benefit Trust Fund of Alberta and Saskatchewan.
Pension: Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Pension Fund of Alberta and Saskatchewan. Employer contributes $3.50 per hour for journeyman. Employer contributes $1.60 per hour, rising 2 steps to $2.65 per hour, for apprentices northern members (for northern members pension contributions, for journeymen and apprentices, $0.50 per hour will be remitted to bricklayers and trowel trades international pension fund). Employer contributes $2.10 per hour, rising 2 steps to $3.15 per hour, for apprentices southern members (for southern apprentices, contributions will be remitted into Alberta and Saskatchewan pension plan).
Uniforms/clothing: Employer will provide safety glasses for all work requiring eye protection; water-proof gloves and apron for all work on wet saws.
Tool allowance: Employer will provide scaffolding, special power-driven tools, suitable lock-up box, special tools and equipment other than all regular hand tools of masonry trade. All saws for masonry work will be supplied by employer and operated by journeyman or apprentice.
Mileage: $0.55 per kilometre to each employee using own vehicle beyond free zone for transportation beyond 30-kilometre free zone.
Sample rates of pay (current, after 1.5% increase):
Journeyman bricklayer: $40.45 rising 1 step to $41.05
First-year apprentice: $24.27 rising 1 step to $24.63
Second-year apprentice: $32.36 rising 1 step to $32.84
Third-year apprentice: $36.41 rising 1 step to $36.95
Editor’s notes: Travel time: 1 hour of time per 90 kilometres (on pro-rata basis) will be paid from 30 kilometres from city limits to job site and return (measured by road mileage by shortest, reasonable possible route). Pulmonary Program: Employer will ensure that $25,000 will be minimum amount in both Edmonton and Calgary bank accounts for training and for pulmonary assessment and WHMIS, first aid, CSTS fall protection, forklift training, scaffold course, fit testing, confined space, H2S Alive, fire extinguisher, platform scaffolding operation (Hydro, Fraco, Klimer), scissor lifts and man lifts training in accordance with Occupational Health and Safety Act Chemical Hazards Regulation of Alberta.
