Renewal agreement: Effective April 22, 2021 to July 21, 2023. Ratified in March 2021. Signed on April 22, 2021.
Wage adjustments:
Effective April 22, 2021: 1.6%
Effective Aug. 1, 2021: 5.3%
Effective Feb. 1, 2022: 2.7%
Shift premium: $1.25 per hour for second shit. $2.50 per hour for third shift. $1.30 per hour (previously $1 per hour) for lead-hands.
Paid holidays: 12.5 days including 2 floater days (previously 1 floater day) and 0.5 days before Christmas Day.
Vacations with pay: Employment standards minimum to start, 2 weeks after 1 year, 3 weeks after 5 years, 4 weeks after 11 years.
Overtime: Time and one-half for hours worked in excess of 8 in 1 day or 40 in 1 week, all hours worked on employee’s sixth and seventh consecutive day worked, and all work on paid holiday.
Medical benefits: Employer pays 100% of premiums for drug coverage, 100% of hospital room charges.
Dental: Employer pays 100% of premiums for coverage of 80% of basic and preventative services up to $1,500 per covered person each year.
Vision: $250 every 24 months reimbursement for eye glasses or contact lenses. $50 every 24 months for eye examinations.
Paramedical: Employer pays 100% of premiums for coverage of 80% of paramedical services.
Weekly indemnity: 75% of first $825 of weekly earnings plus 40% of balance.
LTD: If elected for by union, LTD coverage will be offered as non-taxable benefits, wherein all employees would be required to participate and employees would pay 100% of premiums.
Life insurance: Employer pays 100% of premiums for coverage of $35,000 for employees, $15,000 for spouse, and $10,000 for dependant child.
Bereavement leave: 4 paid days for death of spouse, child, sibling, parent, parent-in-law, grandchild. 3 paid days for death of grandparent, sibling-in-law, aunt, uncle.
Seniority – recall rights: Lesser of 12 months or employee’s seniority.
Probationary period: 90 calendar days within 6-consecutive-month period.
Discipline: Sunset clause is 6 months for verbal; 12 months for written; 18 months for suspensions.
Safety shoes: Employer furnishes 1 pair of safety shoes or boots once per year, maximum of $130 plus taxes, increasing to $150 on Aug. 1, 2021.
Uniforms/clothing: Employer will provide minimum 2 pairs of pants, 2 long-sleeve shirts, 4 short-sleeve shirts every year. Employees will be permitted to wear Bermuda-style shorts (knee length) provided they are in work colours only (blue, beige, black, brown).
Mileage: Employee transferred to another facility will receive mileage at $0.50 per kilometre from employee’s residence to new facility or from employee’s former location to new facility, whichever is greater, maximum $27 per day per employee.
Sample rates of hourly pay (current, after 2.7% increase):
General labour/housekeeping: $16.80 rising 1 step $17.25
Counter 1 (admin)/order prep/materials feeder/packer: $17.95 rising 1 step to $18.40
Receiver/utility and maintenance: $20 rising 1 step to $20.45
Forklift operator/certified machine operator (pneumatic)/shipper: $22 rising 1 step to $22.45
All employees, who are employed on or after date of ratification, will receive lump-sum gross payment of $0.25 for each straight-time hour worked and $0.375 for each overtime hour worked between Aug. 1, 2020 and ratification.
All employees, who are employed on or after date of ratification, will receive lump-sum gross payment of $0.55 for each straight-time hour worked and $0.825 for each overtime hour worked between Aug. 1, 2021 and ratification.
Editor’s notes: Citizenship leave: 8 hours without pay to be sworn in as Canadian citizen. Medical certificates: Whenever medical certificate is requested by employer, employee will be reimbursed for any charges incurred by medical practitioner.
