Renewal agreement: Effective March 1, 2019 to Feb. 28, 2024. Signed on April 18, 2019.

Wage adjustments:

Effective year 1: $2 per hour

Effective year 2: 1.5%

Effective year 3: 1.5%

Effective year 4: 1.5%

Effective year 5: 1.5%

Shift premium: $1.25 per hour for designated lead-hands. $1.25 per hour for employee who conducts driver training.

Paid holidays: 9 days.

Vacations with pay: 2 weeks or 4% after 1 year, 3 weeks or 6% after 15 years, 4 weeks or 8% after 15 years. Additional 3 float days per year; unused days will be paid out in second pay period in January.

Overtime: Time and one-half for all work after 9 hours per day or 44 hours per week for drivers. Time and one-half for all work after 8 hours per day or 40 hours per week for non-drivers. Double time for all work on Sunday.

Medical benefits: Employer pays 100% of premiums.

Dental: Employer pays 100% of premiums.

Vision: Employer pays 100% of premiums.

STD: Employee pays 100% of premiums.

Pension: Employer will match 50% of employee contributions up to 7% of wages to company-established RRSP. Maximum employer contribution is 3.5%.

Bereavement leave: 5 days for death of spouse, common-law partner, children (including children of employee’s spouse, common-law partner), mother, father (including stepmother, stepfather). 3 days for death of mother-in-law, father-in-law, brother, sister, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, grandparents or grandchildren. Should more time be required for any reason relating to death, unpaid leave of absence will not be unreasonably withheld.

Seniority – recall rights: 12 consecutive months for recalls; 24 consecutive months for any other reason.

Call-in pay: Minimum 4 hours’ pay or time and one-half for all hours worked, whichever is greater. Time and one-half for all work on Saturday or regular rate for minimum of 4 hours, whichever is greater; double time for all work on Sunday or regular rate for minimum of 4 hours, whichever is greater.

Probationary period: 90 working days.

Safety shoes: $175 during first and second year of contract; $185 during third, fourth, fifth year of contract, for CSA-approved safety boots.

Uniforms/clothing: Employer will provide appropriate employee uniforms that will promote employee safety. Employees are responsible for cleaning, size change, repair except for mechanics (employer will clean overalls). Employees who do portable toilets will be supplied with rubber boots and clean coveralls or uniform daily. Employer will supply each employee on Oct. 1, 1 winter coat bearing company insignia as part to employee uniform. Employer will make insulated winter coveralls available to employees assigned to landfills, toilet truck, maintenance. Employer will supply new winter coat to employees when winter coat is beyond repair (maximum 2 winter coats during term of agreement).

Tool allowance: Employer will insure tools for level 2, level 3 apprentices, licensed mechanics, maximum $25,000.

Mileage: $0.25 per kilometre travelled each way for any distance greater than 40 kilometres between employee’s normal point to which they report to work and alternate company yard when employee is required by employer to use own vehicle to travel to another yard.

Editor’s notes: Overnight hauls: $50 meal allowance for employee who completes overnight haul. Medical examination: When employee is required by MTO (Ministry of Transportation) to undergo medical examination to maintain driver’s license certification, employer will reimburse employee, maximum $100, for examination. Training: Employer will pay regular hourly rate for all employees who attend company meetings, WHMIS, dangerous goods meetings, any other training. Safety bonus: $1,000 (employee will receive $250 bonus payable during week of 15th of month following end of each fiscal quarter: April 15, June 15, Sept. 15, Dec. 15). Employees must not have any incidents involving unsafe act or safety-rule violation. Attendance bonus: Maximum $500 per year if employee is never late or has no unexcused absences during year.
