Renewal agreement: Effective Jan. 1, 2024, to Dec. 31, 2025. Signed on Nov. 30, 2023.
Wage adjustments:
Effective Jan. 1, 2024: 3%
Effective Jan.1, 2025: 2.5%
Paid holidays: 13 days.
Vacations with pay: 2 weeks after 1 year, 3 weeks after 2 years, 3 weeks after 3 years, 3 weeks after 4 years, 4 weeks after 5 years, 5 weeks after 20 years, 6 weeks after 30 years.
Overtime: One and one-half times the regular hourly rate of pay for each overtime hour worked. Overtime worked on a statutory holiday shall be paid at two times the regular hourly rate of pay.
Medical benefits: Employer pays 65% of Alberta Health Care premiums. Employer pays 100% of Extended Health Coverage premiums for the employee and their family.
Dental: All permanent employees have the option to join the dental plan. Once an employee signs on to the plan, they must remain on the plan for a minimum of 5 years or until employment ceases.
Sick leave: 1½ days of sick leave for each month employed, up to a maximum accumulation of 120 days. Employees must work 1 full month before they are eligible to take sick leave.
LTD: Employee pays 100% of Long-Term Disability premiums through the current insurance plan, which provides for 66.66% paid in case of illness or disability from the 120th day to age 65, death or recovery, whichever occurs first.
AD&D: Employer pays 100% of the Accidental Death and Dismemberment premiums through the current insurance plan, which provides 2x annual salary for Accidental Death and Dismemberment.
Life insurance: Employer pays 100% of the Group Life Insurance premiums.
Pension: In addition to the Canada Pension Plan, every full-time employee shall join the Local Authorities Pension Plan after 1 full year of service with the Municipality.
Bereavement leave: Maximum of 5 working days with pay for the purpose of attending the funeral and/or making funeral arrangements on the death of an immediate relative including: spouse, fiancé, guardian ward, grandparent of spouse, parent, brother, sister, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, son, daughter, father-in-law, mother-in-law, grandparent, grandchild, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, aunt, uncle.
Call-in pay: All Public Works employees are required to work in the event of an emergency. Emergency call outs will be paid based on all hours worked (a minimum of 4 hours). There shall be no minimum guaranteed compensation if the call out is contiguous with a normal working period.
Probationary period: 3 months.
Safety shoes: Seasonal employees, upon presentation of receipts in their 1st season shall receive a maximum of $250 for safety boot allowance in that year and the year after.
Uniforms/clothing: Employer provides necessary or required personal protective equipment and devices in accordance with the requirements of Occupational Health and Safety at no cost to employees.
Tool allowance: Employer supplies all required tools for Public Works Operators.
Sample rates of pay (current, after increase):
Mechanics – Level 1: $38.53, up one step to $39.49.
Shop Foreman - $48.82, up one step to $50.04.
PW Equipment Operator – Level 1: $ 34.74, up one step to $35.61.
Editor’s notes: Safety allowance - Each permanent employee and eligible seasonal employee, upon presentation of receipt, shall be entitled to $650 and $750 for trades people per calendar year and may carry over any unused portion for 1 calendar year.
