USW workers secure agreement at Forterra

SAINT-EUSTACHE, Que. – United Steelworkers (USW) members at the Forterra water pipe manufacturing plant in Saint-Eustache, Que. ratified a collective agreement on March 2, negotiated in challenging circumstances.

The new contract provides for wage increases of three per cent in the first year, and 2.75 per cent and 2.5 per cent in the second and third years, respectively, says the union.

In addition to general wage increases, the contract includes additional wage adjustments and improvements to the group RRSP and shift premiums, says USW.

“There has been a modernization of the pay scale and classifications have been merged, resulting in an additional wage increase for a portion of the workers,” says Benoît Locas, USW north/northwest region coordinator.
