Renewal agreement: Effective April 1, 2021 to March 31, 2024. Signed on May 24, 2022.

Shift premium: $1.50 per hour for all non-overtime hours worked between 5 p.m. and 7:59 a.m. $1 per hour for all non-overtime hours worked on Saturday and Sunday. 6% when lead-hand duties are performed.

Paid holidays: 12 days.  

Vacations with pay: Maximum 2 weeks or 9% during each season of employment.

Overtime: Time and one-half for first 8 hours of overtime and work on Saturday; double time thereafter. Double time for work on Sunday.

Medical benefits: Employer pays 50% of premiums, employee pays 50% of premiums during operating season (employer pays 50% of premiums during off season).

Sick leave: 1 day for each worked., maximum 20 days accumulation. Employees who have accrued more than 20 days per year, will receive 50% of remaining days on final pay of season or 50% of any remaining days above 20 (maximum 6 days per year will be held in reserve, to accumulated maximum 60 days) for payment upon termination of employment.

Pension: Employer will pay 5% of employee’s gross earned income per month into employee’s RRSP or directly to employee.

Bereavement leave: 4 days, plus 3 days unpaid leave for travel, for death in immediate family (father, mother, brother, sister, spouse, child, ward of employee, father-in-law, mother-in-law, grandchild, grandparent, relative permanently residing in employee’s household). 1 day for death of son-in-law, daughter-in-law, brother-in-law, sister-in-law.

Call-in pay: Greater of compensation at applicable overtime rate or compensation equivalent to 2 hours’ pay at applicable overtime rate.

Discipline: Sunset clause is 2 consecutive calendar years for any unfavourable report concerning employee.

Severance: 2 weeks’ pay for first and 1 week’s pay for each succeeding accumulated 12 months of employment, maximum 26 weeks; 1 week’s pay for each accumulated 12 months employment — less any previously granted severance pay — maximum 26 weeks, after being laid off for second or subsequent time.

Safety shoes: $200 per year for CSA-approved safety footwear.

Uniforms/clothing: Employer will supply 1 hard hat each operating season to employees required to wear them. At beginning of each operating season, 2 sets of coveralls and 2 sets of work gloves will be provided to all employees, except for office personnel. Employee will be also be reimbursed, maximum $300 every 2 years for 1 set of insulated coveralls.

Tool allowance: Employer will reimburse journeymen tradespersons $300 per year for tools regularly used. Journey-level tradesperson mechanics will receive $800 per year for tools regularly used.

Editor’s notes: Vacation travel assistance: $750 per year, adjusted annually based on CPI for NWT (Yellowknife) for previous year. Employees will receive assistance prior to Oct. 1 each year by separate cheque. Winter utility allowance: $1,300 per year, adjusted annually based on CPI for NWT (Yellowknife) for previous year. Employees will receive assistance prior to Jan. 31 each year by separate cheque. Northern living allowance: $275 bi-weekly, adjusted annually based on CPI for NWT (Yellowknife) for previous year. Meal allowance: While traveling on employer business and in places where employer does not provide meals, employees will receive $70 per day. Employees living in camp will be entitled to $60  per day, provided camp in which employee lives is equipped with functional kitchen. Where such kitchen is not made available, employees living in camp will be entitled to $70 per day. Prescription safety glasses: When employer requires employee to wear safety glasses and employee wears prescription glasses, employer will reimburse employee maximum $200 every 2 years.
