Renewal agreement: Effective May 1, 2019 to April 30, 2022. Signed on May 1, 2019.

Paid holidays: 10 days.

Vacations with pay: 10% of gross earnings will be paid to vacation-with-pay trust fund on behalf of employees who are members of Local 183 (6% in lieu of statutory holiday pay; 4% in lieu of vacation pay).

Overtime: Time and one-half for all work after 10 hours per day Monday to Friday inclusive and for all work after 46 hours per week Monday to Friday inclusive and for all work on Saturday. Double time for all work performed on Sundays, holidays.

Medical benefits: Employer will contribute $3.30 per hour (previously $3.15 per hour) into Local 183 Members’ Benefit Fund. Effective May 1, 2020: $3.45 per hour. Effective May 1, 2021: $3.60 per hour. Employer will contribute $5.40 per hour into Local 793 Members’ Benefit Fund. Effective May 1, 2020: $5.60 per hour. Effective May 1, 2021: $5.70 per hour.

LTD: Employer will contribute $0.60 per hour into Local 183 Members’ Benefit Fund.

Pension: Employer will contribute $8.90 per hour (previously $8.60 per hour) into Pension Fund of Central and Eastern Canada. Effective May 1, 2020: $9 per hour. Effective May 1, 2021: $9.10 per hour. Employer will contribute $0.80 per hour into Universal Workers Union Local 183 Retiree Benefit Trust Fund. Effective May 1, 2020: $0.90 per hour. Effective May 1, 2021: $1 per hour. Employer will contribute $5.83 per hour into Local 793 pension fund.

Uniforms/clothing: Employer will supply safety helmets to employees at no cost. When employees are required to work in wet weather, employer will supply suitable raincoats/jackets, safety vests or reflective shirts (gloves, rubber boots are employee’s obligation). Employer will supply, where necessary, safety equipment: safety harnesses, goggles, masks, ear protection.

Labourer: $53.69 rising 2 steps to $57.59

Pipelayer: $54.96 rising 2 steps to $58.86

Cement finisher: $55.59 rising 2 steps to $59.49

Carpenter/form setter: $55.59 rising 2 steps to $59.49

Combination skilled worker: $56.23 rising 2 steps to $60.13

Working foreman: $59.75 rising 2 steps to $63.65

Driver: $54.63 rising 2 steps to $57.59

Sample rates of hourly pay (current, after 5% increase):

Local 793

Engineers operating shovels, backhoes, pitman, front-end loaders (1 cubic yard and over (D-4 or equivalent and over): $56.97 rising 2 steps to $59.72

Engineers operating backhoes, front-end loaders (under 1 cubic yard), farm and industrial type tractors with excavating attachments, compaction equipment and bulldozers (under D-4): $55.70 rising 2 steps to $58.45

Sample rates of hourly pay (current):

Heavy-equipment apprentices

First 1,000 hours: 50% of base rate for machine being operated

Next 1,000 hours: 60% of base rate for machine being operated

2,000 hours: 75% of base rate for machine being operated

2,500 hours: 75% of base rate for machine being operated

Trainee

First 2 months: 60% of regular wage rate

Last 4 months: 80% of regular wage rate

Editor’s notes: Organizing fund: Employer will contribute $0.25 per hour (previously $0.05 per hour) into members’ benefit trust fund for administration purposes. Benefits fund: Employer will contribute $0.10 per hour into Labourers’ Central and Eastern Canada Organizing Fund (CECOF). Effective May 1, 2020: $0.15 per hour. Effective May 1, 2021: $0.20 per hour. Prepaid legal plan: Employer will pay $0.10 for each hour earned by each employee to Labourers’ Local 183 Prepaid Legal Benefit Fund to provide legal benefits to employees and beneficiaries. Training fund: Employer will contribute $0.20 per hour into Local 183 members’ training fund. Employer will contribute $0.60 per hour into Local 793 members’ training fund. Effective May 1, 2020: $0.65 per hour. Transportation of employees: Employees who are requested to pick up other employees at assembly points and transport them to job and from job back to assembly points, will be paid 1 straight-time hour per day. Advancement dues: Employer will deduct $0.35 per hour for advancement dues. Effective May 1, 2020: $0.40 per hour. Travelling allowance: For all jobs outside geographical area: $20 per day if employer provides company vehicle; employees who use own transportation will be paid $0.42 per kilometre from work site to nearest point of boundary of metro area. If employer requires employee to be out of town overnight, employer will provide adequate room and board or will pay $95 per day, maximum $475 per week.
