Renewal agreement: Effective Feb. 1, 2023 to Jan. 31, 2027. Signed on March 28, 2023.

Wage adjustments:

Effective Feb. 1, 2023: Vancouver CPI for preceding December (6.4%)

Effective Feb. 1, 2024: Vancouver CPI for preceding December or 3%

Effective Feb. 1, 2025: Vancouver CPI for preceding December or 3%

Effective Feb. 1, 2026: Vancouver CPI for preceding December or 3.5%

Paid holidays: 13 days, including National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

Vacations with pay: 4 weeks or 8% to start, 5 weeks or 10% after 12 years, 6 weeks or 12% after 17 years, 70 weeks or 14% after 23 years.

Overtime: Double time for all hours worked after 12 consecutive hours. May be taken as time off.

Medical benefits: $440 per employee per year (previously $400 per employee per year) for health and wellness account.

Dental: Employer pays 100% of premiums. 100% coverage of basic and prosthetic appliance, crown and bridge, maximum $5,000 per year; 80% coverage for orthodontics, maximum $10,000 per year.

Sick leave: 1.75 days per month, maximum accumulation 365 days.

LTD: Employer pays 100% of premiums.

Call-in pay: 3. days’ pay for each call-in assignment. If employee requests that they be given second call-in, it will be paid at 50% of fee otherwise due, provided second call-in could be completed within 12 hours from start of first call-back.

Severance: 2 weeks’ pay for first year; 1 week for each succeeding year of service thereafter, maximum 28 weeks.

Uniforms/clothing: Employer will reimburse employee, maximum $330 per year (previously maximum $300 per year), for work-related clothing. Employer will provide either standard floater coat or U-Vic jacket and industry approved self-inflating lifejacket.

Sample rates of annual pay (current, after 9.8% increase):

Area 1, class 1, licensed marine pilot: $255,350.16 rising 3 steps to $280,382.51

Apprentice pilots: $106,924.91

Editor’s notes: Glasses: Employer will reimburse employees for second pair of eye glasses or for 1 pair of sunglasses, maximum $700 per pair every 2 years (previously $400 per pair every 2 years). Gym membership: $66 per month for each employee. Meeting pay: Minimum 4 hours’ at overtime rate if employee is required to attend meeting when employee is on scheduled day of rest.
