Renewal agreement: Effective April 19, 2022 to Sept. 30, 2024. Signed on April 19, 2022.

Paid holidays: 16 days, including Nova Scotia Heritage Day, Easter Monday, National Aboriginal Day (June 21), Election Day, Election Day Counting, Truth and Reconciliation Day, Treaty Day (Oct. 1).

Vacations with pay: 6%.

Pension: Employer will match employee contribution, maximum 5.5%.

Bereavement leave: 5) days for death in immediate family (married spouse, common law partner, child (includes children through common-law relationships, stepchildren, wards, foster-children, custom adoptions), mother, father, sister, brother, legal guardian, mother-in-law, father-in-law, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, grandparents, grandchildren, spouse’s grandparents, foster-parent, guardian).

Seniority – recall rights: 24 months while on layoff or on sick leave or workers’ compensation (provided medical evidence indicates that employee is unlikely to return to work) or where employee is waiting confirmed transfer to another vessel in fleet or normal tie-up.

Probationary period: First 3 trips.

Uniforms/clothing: $500 per year (previously $300 per year)H.

Sample rates of pay (current):

Crew share: 30% of gross catch
Crew share (additional deck-hand): 37.5% of gross catch
First mate: 8% of gross catch
Signing bonus: $1,200 per employee

Editor’s notes: Collective-bargaining pay: Employer will pay up to 2 employees who are on union bargaining committee for time spent in bargaining, if that employee is required to miss regularly scheduled employment: $750 (previously $500) for each day spent at collective bargaining meetings, maximum $3,750 (previously $2,500) per employee. Safety equipment: Employer is responsible to pay for required Transport Canada safety equipment. Loss of personal effects: When vessel is lost or burned during trip, all employees will receive $1,500 lump-sum payment for loss of personal items, provided list of lost items is supplied by each deckhand. Production bonus: 0.75% of gross catch per trip, per employee, will be calculated upon conclusion of each trip and held to be paid in total at end of fishing season; 1% in year 3 of agreement.
