Renewal agreement: Effective July 1, 2020 to June 30, 2022. Ratified on Nov. 3, 2020. Signed on March 22, 2021.
Wage adjustments:
Effective July 1, 2020: 1.5%
Effective July 1, 2021: 1.7%
Shift premium: Weekend premiums will be paid between 11 p.m. on Friday to 7 a.m. Monday: $2.75 per hour for all hours worked on day shift; $3 per hour for all hours worked on evening. Effective July 1, 2021: $3.20 per hour for all hours worked on night shift. $2 per hour for all hours worked between 3 p.m. and 11 p.m. $2.50 per hour for all hours worked between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m.
Paid holidays: 9 days.
Vacations with pay: 2 weeks or 4% after 1 year, 3 weeks or 6% after 5 years, 4 weeks or 8% after 13 years, 5 weeks or 10% after 18 years. 3 weeks or 6% after 1 year, 4 weeks or 8% after 6 years, 5 weeks or 10% after 16 years for employees who were hired prior to April 1, 2016.
Overtime: 1.5 times basic rate for all hours greater than 7.5 hours per day or 75 hours biweekly for HCAs. 1.5 times basic rate for all hours greater than 7.75 hours per day or 77.5 hours biweekly for LPNs. 1.5 times basic rate for all hours worked after 5 consecutive days worked.
Medical benefits: Employer pays 80% of premiums, employee pays 20% of premiums.
Dental: Employer pays 80% of premiums, employee pays 20% of premiums. 85% coverage, maximum $2,000.
Vision: Employer pays 80% of premiums, employee pays 20% of premiums. $250 every 24 months.
Paramedical: Employer pays 80% of premiums, employee pays 20% of premiums. 75% coverage. Maximum $750 all practitioners combined for chiropractor, massage, naturopath, osteopath, physiotherapy, podiatrist, psychologist, speech therapist.
Sick leave: All employees will earn 2% premium in lieu of sick leave. Employee’s paid leave bank can be carried over from year to year maximum of $3,000 (previously $2,500). Any balance above $3,000 would be paid to employee in December.
Life insurance: Employer pays 80% of premiums, employee pays 20% of premiums. $20,000 coverage.
Bereavement leave: 5 days for death in immediate family (spouse (including common-law spouse, same-sex partner), child, mother, father, mother-in-law, father-in-law, grandfather, grandmother, grandchild, brother, sister). 2 additional calendar days if travel out of province is necessary to attend funeral.
Seniority – recall rights: 12 months or maximum 24 months for absence due to illness; 18 month for employee who has accepted temporary position out of scope.
Probationary period: 450 hours or 4 months, whichever is shorter. Period may be extended, maximum 450 hours worked.
Discipline: Sunset clause is 24 months for records of disciplinary action. If employee has been absent for 60 consecutive days or more, employee will have period extended by corresponding amount of time. Under no circumstances will record of disciplinary action as result of resident mistreatment be removed from employee file.

Editor’s notes: Float holidays: Employees who have completed probation will be entitled to earn float holidays: employee earns 7.5-hour float holiday for every 500 hours worked. Float holidays will be capped at 2 per year. Hours earned towards floats do not carry over from 1 calendar year to next. Hearing aids: $500 lifetime. Orthotics: $400 every 3 calendar years.
