Renewal agreement: Effective Sept. 21, 2018 to Sept. 20, 2022. Signed on April 11, 2019.
Wage adjustments:
During term of agreement, $0.03 will be generated for every full-point increase in CPI above August setting of 397.8 (maximum $0.50 in first year; maximum $0.60 in each of second and third years of agreement).
Paid holidays: 10 days, plus last working day before Christmas Day, last working day before New Year’s Day, 1 floater holiday, attendance-incentive floater day.
Vacations with pay: One-half day per month or 4% to start, 2 weeks or 4% after 1 year, 3 weeks or 6% after 5 years, 4 weeks or 8% after 10 years, 5 weeks or 10% after 15 years, 6 weeks or 12% after 25 years, 7 weeks or 14% after 30 years. Vacation cannot be accumulated from year-to-year and must be taken within 1 year after it is earned. On 25- and 40-year anniversaries employer will grant 1 extra paid week of vacation for those years only.
Overtime: Time and one-half for all work in excess of 40 hours per work week or 8 hours per day. Double time after 4 hours of overtime. Time and one-half for all work on first day of rest; double time for all work on second or third consecutive day of rest (employee must work first day of rest to qualify for double time).
Meal allowance: $15 (including delivery cost) for employee who works minimum 2 hours of overtime after completing regular shift.
Dental: $2,000 maximum coverage per family member. $2,500 per child for ortho coverage. 50/50 co-insurance for major restorative, denture plan.
Vision: $300 per family member (previously $200 per family member) every 2 years.
Weekly indemnity: Coverage of 70% of daily insurable earnings up to E.I. weekly maximum.
Life insurance: Coverage of 1 times annual salary, maximum $50,000 (previously $20,000).
Pension: After 12 months of service, employees must join pension plan. Employer will contribute $26 per week (previously $25 per week) after 1 year of service; $42 per week (previously $40 per week) after 3 years of service; $68 per week (previously $65 per week) after 5 years of service; $92 per week (previously $86 per week) after 10 years of service.
Bereavement leave: 5 days (previously 3 days) for death in immediate family (spouse, common-law spouse, legally recognized spouse, son, daughter, stepchild). 3 days for death of member of family (mother, father, stepmother, stepfather, grandchild, grandparent, brother, sister, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, spouse’s father, mother, brother, sister). 1 shop steward will be allowed necessary time off to attend funeral of fellow union member of Purity Zinc Metals, maximum 4 hours’ pay.
Seniority – recall rights: 1 month for every 2 months of seniority to start; 12 months after 1 year; 18 months after 3 years; 24 months after 5 years.
Call-in pay: Minimum of 4 hours’ pay at regular rate or for time worked at overtime rate, whichever is greater.
Probationary period: 960 hours worked during 12-month period.
Discipline: Sunset clause is 18 months; 24 months for any violations of insubordination and violence, harassment, discrimination as defined by Ontario Human Rights Code or Occupational Health and Safety Act.
Safety shoes: Employer will supply, on 1-for-1 basis, CSA-approved safety shoes.
Uniforms/clothing: All uniform rentals will be paid by employer. Clean uniforms must be put on before going home.

Editor’s notes: Medical notes: Employer will pay: maximum $20 maximum for cost of doctor’s note or medical certificate. Prescription glasses: Maximum $200 every year for prescription safety glasses for employees only. Wash-up time: 15-minute wash-up period (paid at straight time) will be allowed at end of shift for anybody working in dust department, sonic sifter, side station, dust-room helper and maintenance department. Employee must be performing duties for at least last 2 hours of shift. Advancement fund: Employer will contribute $100 per month to Teamsters, Local 79 referencing advancement fund.
