Renewal agreement: Effective Jan. 1, 2019 to Dec. 31, 2021. Ratified in February 2019.
Wage adjustments:
Effective July 1, 2019: 1.25%
Effective July 1, 2020: 1.25%
Effective July 1, 2021: 1.5%
Shift premium: $0.45 per hour for shifts that begin at 4 p.m. or later. $0.50 per hour for shifts that begin at midnight or later and all scheduled hours on Saturdays. $1.55 per hour for all scheduled hours of work on Sundays.
Paid holidays: 10 days. Remembrance Day is not paid holiday but employees who wish to attend Queen’s service during work hours will be allowed paid time to do so (with managerial approval).
Vacations with pay: 1.25 days for each completed month of service, maximum of 15 days to start, 15 days after 1 year, 16 days after 3 years, 17 days after 4 years, 18 days after 5 years, 19 days after 6 years, 20 days after 7 years, 21 days after 10 years, 22 days after 12 years, 23 days after 14 years, 24 days after 16 years, 25 days after 18 years, 26 days after 19 years, 27 days after 20 years, 28 days after 22 years, 29 days after 24 years, 30 days after 25 years.
Overtime: Time and one-half for each hour beyond normal work day or work week and hours worked on paid holiday. Double time for hours worked on Sunday if normal schedule is Monday to Friday. Double time for each hour on seventh day in workweek for employees with normal schedule that isn’t Monday to Friday and employee worked sixth day of workweek. Each employee’s overtime bank may not exceed twice number of hours in regular workweek.
Medical benefits: Employer pays 100% of premiums for Queen’s Supplementary Medical Plan.
Dental: Employer pays 100% of premiums.
Sick leave: Paid time off for bona-fide incidental absences due to illness. 3 working days during first 3 months of employment.
STD: Employer pays 100% of premiums for coverage of 6 months or end of employee’s appointment, whichever comes first.
LTD: Employer pays 100% of premiums.
Life insurance: Employer pays 55% of premiums, employee pays 45% of premiums.
Pension: Pension Plan of Queen’s University.
Bereavement leave: 5 paid working days for death of parent, stepparent, spouse, partner, child, sibling, stepsibling, parent-in-law, sibling-in-law, grandparent, grandchild.
Seniority – recall rights: Seniority considered continuous if break between appointments is not greater than 13 weeks; 2 years for employee who leaves bargaining unit but remains employed by university.
Call-in pay: Greater of 4 hours at regular pay or time and one-half for hours worked if called back to work after completing normal work day. 1 hour’s pay for each period of 6 hours being on call.
Probationary period: 6 months of active employment.
Discipline: Sunset clause is 18 months.

Editor’s notes: Whistleblower protection: Employee who has bona-fide basis upon which to believe wrongdoing has occurred and reports it will be protected from retaliation whether or not violation is found to have occurred. Tuition assistance: Educational development fund covers tuition fees for Queen’s credit courses. Professional development fund reimburses up to $400 per year for job-related courses taken at other recognized educational institutions. Moving: Maximum 1-day leave with pay per year to employee who is moving from one residence to another in local area. Medical notes/certificates: Employer will reimburse employee for cost of required physician’s note, maximum $25 per note. Employer will reimburse employee for cost of required physician’s certificate, maximum $50 per certificate. Humanity fund: Employer will contribute $0.03 per hour — from wages of employees — for all compensated hours to humanity fund.
