Renewal agreement: Effective Jan. 1, 2018, to Dec. 31, 2020. Signed on Oct. 9, 2018.

Wage adjustments:

Effective Jan. 1, 2018: 2%

Effective Jan. 1, 2019: 2%

Effective Jan. 1, 2020: 2%

Shift premium: $0.50 per hour for all employees working between 6 p.m. and midnight. $0.75 per hour for all employees working between midnight and 6 a.m. $0.60 per hour (previously $0.50 per hour) when Sunday is included in regularly scheduled work week. $0.50 per 15-minute period for any run not being completed within 9 hours of commencement of work. $0.15 per hour for evening shift. $1 per hour for when compactor is not available for use on site and track vehicle or open-cab vehicle is required to be used as replacement. $1 per hour for time worked instructing aquafit classes. $0.25 per hour for level 1 first-aid attendant; $0.50 per hour for level 2 first-aid attendant.

Paid holidays: 12 days.

Vacations with pay: 3 weeks or 6% after 1 year, 4 weeks or 8% after 5 years, 5 weeks or 10% after 14 years, 6 weeks or 12% after 20 years, 7 weeks or 14% after 25 years.

Overtime: Time and one-half for all work in excess of normal working day or normal work week. Double time for all work on Sunday (not included in regularly scheduled normal work week); work on statutory holidays; work after 11 hours per shift; after 3 hours of overtime; work on scheduled day off. May be accumulated, maximum 120 hours per year. Unused time will be paid out by March of following year.

Meal allowance: $20 for employee who work more than 2 hours overtime contiguous with regular shift.

Medical benefits: Employer pays 100% of monthly premiums for Medical Services Plan of B.C. Employer pays 100% of monthly premiums for extended health-care plan. Employer pays 70% of monthly premiums, employee pays 30% of monthly premiums for employee assistance program.

Dental: Employer pays 100% of monthly premiums. Maximum $4,000 for orthodontic coverage

Vision: $500 (previously $400) for glasses or cost of corrective eye surgery every 24-month period per family member. $100 every 2 years for eye exams.

Paramedical: $550 for chiropractor, massage therapist, physiotherapist, psychologist.

Sick leave: 1.5 days per month, cumulative maximum 120 days.

LTD: Employer pays 50% of monthly premiums, employee pays 50% of monthly premiums.

AD&D: Employer pays 100% of monthly premiums for coverage of $100,000.

Life insurance: Employer pays 100% of monthly premiums for coverage of $100,000.

Pension: Employer, employee will each contribute to municipal pension plan.

Bereavement leave: 5 days for death in immediate family (father, mother, brothers, sisters, stepbrothers, stepsisters, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, spouse, common-law-spouse (as defined in Family Relations Act), children, stepchildren, in-law parents, grandparents, grandchildren, current stepparents of employee).

Seniority – recall rights: 18 months.

Call-in pay: 4 hours’ pay at regular rates or for actual time worked at applicable overtime rates, whichever is greater.

Probationary period: 90 days worked.

Discipline: Sunset clause is 36 months for warning, discipline letters.

Safety shoes: $300 every 24-month period (previously every 24-month period) for CSA-approved steel-toed or safety boots. $100 per 24-month period to following employees for appropriate footwear: Recreation programmer aquatics, aquatic team leader, life guard/instructor 1, life guard/instructor 2, GIS coordinator, GIS technician, parks and trails coordinator, parks assistant, parks operations coordinator, parks planner, parks technician, planner, planning technician, senior planner.

Uniforms/clothing: Employer will supply suitable uniforms to bus drivers. $115 per year (previously $100 per year) for appropriate swimwear for employee who is required to wear swimwear.

Tool allowance: $0.45 per hour (previously $200 per year) to mechanics or mechanic helpers who are required to provide tools as condition of employment.

Chief facilities operator, chief mechanic, chief operator. equip. and maintenance, landfill services supervisor, payroll coordinator, senior operator, transfer station supervisor: $36.89 rising 2 steps to $38.38

Editor’s notes: Pager bonus: 2 hours’ pay at employee’s classified rate of pay and for each non-working day an additional 3 hours’ at employee’s classified rate of pay for employees who respond to emergency calls via pager for essential services. Sickness notes: Employer will reimburse employees for cost of any medical notes employee may be required to provide. Hard EX lenses: Cost of Hard EX lenses will be borne by employer for any employee required to wear Hard EX lenses by WorkSafeBC. Bus passes: employer will provide to eligible employees in transportation services and immediate family members only, bus passes to allow free transportation on bus vehicles owned and operated by Nanaimo Regional Transit System.
