Renewal agreement: Effective Jan. 1, 2020 to Dec. 31, 2024. Ratified in February 2020. Signed on Jan. 1, 2020.
Wage adjustments:
Effective Jan. 1, 2020: 3%

Shift premium: $500 for working full calendar year on 3-shift rotation. $325 for working full calendar year on 2-shift rotation. $412.50 for working 12-hour shift schedule. 5% of salary rate when assigned to be field training officer. 3% of first-class constable salary for any employee who is assigned to front-line response unit, after 5 years of service. 5% of first-class constable salary for operational members of tactical and rescue unit and canine unit. 5% of salary for constable who is assigned as field-training officer for any time employee is actually performing training duties. Employee will be paid salary at rate of higher rank/classification for hours spent assigned to higher rank/classification.
Paid holidays: 13 days including 1 floating holiday.
Vacations with pay: 120 hours after 1 year, 144 hours after 5 years, 160 hours after 10 years, 200 hours after 15 years, 240 hours after 20 years, 280 hours after 25 years, 288 hours after 30 years, 8 additional hours for each subsequent year of cumulative service up to 320 hours. Double hours granted if required to attend court or return to duty during annual vacation. Employee may ask to carry over one-half of annual vacation entitlement into following year.
Overtime: Time and one-half for time worked beyond regular tour of duty and time worked on statutory holiday (at least 3 hours). May be exchanged for time off. If overtime period immediately following regular tour of duty continues into next regular tour of duty, second tour will continue to be paid at overtime rate. May be accumulated into overtime bank. All hours greater than 80 hours in overtime bank as of Dec. 31 of each year will be paid to employee no later than Jan. 31 but employees will be allowed to carry forward maximum 80 hours of accumulation into succeeding year.
Meal allowance: $15 for more than 2 hours of overtime, plus $15 for each addition 4-hour period of overtime.
Medical benefits: Employer pays 100% of premiums for extended health care plan, Ontario Health Insurance Plan. Every employee will receive $425 per year Health Spending Account that may be used to supplement medical expenses in accordance with existing health care benefit plan and in accordance with Canada Revenue Agency medical and dental eligible expenses. Unused funds will not be cumulative from year to year.
Dental: Employer pays 100% of premiums. 80% for major restorative services and 50% of orthodontic services.
Vision: Employer pays 100% of premiums for coverage of $500 every 24 months.
Paramedical: Employer pays 100% of premiums. $100 per visit, maximum $1,000 per year, for massage therapist, chiropractor, speech therapist, podiatrist/chiropodist, naturopath, osteopath, dietician, acupuncturist, audiologist, occupational therapist. $250 per hour, maximum $12,000 per year, for psychologists, psychotherapists, social workers. $100 per visit, maximum $12,000 per year, for physiotherapists.
Sick leave: 8 days per year after 3 months’ continuous service (previously 6 days).
STD: Employer pays 100% of premiums for coverage up to 800 hours.
LTD: Employer pays 100% of premiums for coverage up to $8,750 per month (previously $6,500 per month).
AD&D: Employer pays 100% of premiums. Coverage of 2 times annual salary.
Life insurance: Employer pays 100% of premiums. Coverage of 2 times annual salary.
Pension: Employer pays 100% of premiums for Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System (OMERS).
Bereavement leave: 10 days with pay for death of child, including still births (previously 5 days). 5 days with pay for death of parent, spouse, sibling. 3 days with pay for death of parent-in-law, sibling-in-law, grandchild, grandparents. 1 day with pay for death of spouse’s grandparent.
Seniority – recall rights: 2 years.
Call-in pay: Time and one-half with minimum of 3 hours if called back for duty after leaving work.
Probationary period: 6 months for cadets.
Discipline: Sunset clause is 2 years for disciplinary notifications such as conduct sheets, written warnings, disciplinary statements of derogatory nature; 5 years for entry in officer’s employment record resulting from official disciplinary charge proceeding under Police Services Act that does not result in officer’s discharge.
Uniforms/clothing: $1,350 per 12 months reimbursed to officer if assigned to bureau which requires wearing of civilian attire. Increases to $1,400 on Jan. 1, 2024. $335 per year for dry-cleaning of clothing used in course of duty.

Editor’s notes: Court time: Time and one-half for all hours spent attending court during off-duty hours with minimum of 4 hours for first session and minimum 3 hours for subsequent sessions. Minimum 2 hours for attending session prior to start of regular shift or tour of duty. Education: Employer pays all tuition fees, textbook costs, materials for members attending and successfully completing course of study related and beneficial to police service. On-call: 1 hour at regular rate of pay for being on call. Time and one-half for minimum of 3 hours if called for duty while on call. College mark bonus: Any constable attaining overall percentage higher than 90% at Ontario Police College Basic constable course will be eligible to be reclassified 6 months earlier than would normally occur. Hearing aid benefit: $1,000 every 36 months. Tuition reimbursement: Employer will reimburse constables (after 5 years of service), maximum $1,000 per year until constable has been fully refunded paid tuition, provided constable continues to be employed by Peel Regional Police.
