Renewal agreement: Effective Sept. 1, 2022 to Aug. 31, 2027. Signed on March 9, 2023.

Paid holidays: 10 days, including National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

Overtime: Time and one-half for all hours worked after 12 hours in 1 day and after 84 hours in 1 week.

Medical benefits: Employer pays 80%, employee pays 20% of premiums.

Dental: Employer pays 80%, employee pays 20% of premiums.

Vision: Employer pays 80%, employee pays 20% of premiums.

LTD: Employer pays 80%, employee pays 20% of premiums.

Life insurance: Employer pays 80%, employee pays 20% of premiums.

Pension: Employer will contribute 7%) of officer’s regular earnings into group RRSP.

Bereavement leave: 5 days for death in immediate family (father, mother, spouse, common-law spouse, child, brother, sister, parents-in-law, grandparents). Employer will pay transportation costs from vessel to officer’s home under these circumstances.

Seniority – recall rights: 24 months after layoff.

Probationary period: 2 consecutive tours of duty.

Discipline: Sunset clause is 30 months for disciplinary information.

Severance: 2 days pay per year of service.

Uniforms/clothing: Employer supplies 1 pair of coveralls to each new officer at when officer first goes to work on vessel; 2 additional pairs of coveralls during first 12 months of employment. Subsequently, coveralls are replaced as needed, maximum 3 pairs of coveralls per year, 1 of which will be insulated if ship is trading in Canada. $300 per year for personal protective equipment (safety footwear, foul-weather clothing, prescription safety glasses, custom-fitted earplugs).

Sample rates of daily pay (current, after 11.45% increase):

Chief mate/second engineer/electrical officer: $315.90 rising 4 steps to $352.09

Second mate/third engineer: $281.88 rising 4 steps to $314.17

Third mate: $247.79 rising 4 steps to $276.17

Editor’s notes: Meals: Officers who are entitled to meals while on employer business will be reimbursed for reasonable meals costs incurred when employer is unable to provide meals onboard ship. Marine disaster: Maximum $2,000 for officer who suffers loss of clothing or other personal effects due to marine disaster or shipwreck. Seniority bonus: $1,500 on 10-year anniversary date for officers who have been employed 10 years. $100 per month to all positions added to regular pay commencing on first month after reaching 10-year anniversary: $2,000 on 15-year anniversary date; $2,500 on 20-year anniversary date; $3,000 on 25-year anniversary date.
