Renewal agreement: Effective Aug. 1, 2019 to July 31, 2022. Ratified in July 2020. Signed on Oct. 30, 2020.

Wage adjustments:

Effective Aug. 1, 2019: 2%

Effective Aug. 1, 2020: 2%

Effective Aug. 1, 2021: 2%

Shift premium: $0.30 per hour on afternoon or evening shift for employees required to work on 2 shifts within 2-week pay period. $0.40 per hour for shifts between 11 p.m. Friday and 11 p.m. Sunday (increases to $0.45 per hour on Aug. 1, 2021). $10 per shift for employees scheduled to fill in for supervisor or scheduled to do work outside of bargaining unit. $0.20 per hour for employees working as recreation aide (nursing home) who have HCA/PSW or better qualifications. $0.25 per hour above applicable housekeeping rate when designated by employer for employee working as handy person. $0.50 per hour for employee with certificate in recognized program in gerontology. $0.25 per hour for cook with provincial cook’s certificate receives. $0.10 per hour for dietary aides who have completed educational requirements set out in Long Term Care Act.

Paid holidays: 11 days. Employees with 10 years or more of service receive 1 additional float day per year; employees with 27 years or more of service receive second float day per year.

Vacations with pay: 1 day per full month of service to start, 2 weeks after 1 year, 3 weeks after 3 years, 4 weeks after 5 years, 5 weeks after 9 years, 6 weeks after 23 years, 7 weeks after 28 years.

Overtime: Time and one-half for all work performed in excess of 7.5 hours per day, 75 hours or 10 days per pay period, 7 consecutive days, 5 consecutive scheduled days, on statutory holidays.

Medical benefits: Employer pays 100% of premiums for major medical benefits.

Dental: Employer pays 75% of premiums, employee pays 25% of premiums for plan equivalent to Blue Cross No. 9 Plan.

Vision: Employer pays 100% of premiums for plan providing $275 every 2 years plus eye exams ($300 as of Aug. 1, 2021).

Sick leave: 1.5 days per month, maximum 18 days per year and 120 days cumulative. First 7 days in calendar year are paid at 100% and subsequent days at 85%.

LTD: Employee pays 100% of premiums for permanent full-time employees.

AD&D: Employer pays 100% of premiums for coverage of $30,000.

Life insurance: Employer pays 100% of premiums for coverage of $30,000

Pension: Employees pay 4% of wages and employer matches contribution.

Bereavement leave: 5 paid days for death of spouse, parent, child, grandchild. 3 paid days for death of grandparent, stepparent, sibling, parent-in-law, sibling-in-law, child-in-law. 1 paid day for death of direct aunt or uncle. When necessary because of distance, employee may receive up to 3 additional unpaid days.

Seniority – recall rights: 24 months for layoffs; employee’s accrued seniority or maximum 36 months for employee off work due to illness.

Call-in pay: Minimum 4 hours’ pay for employees called back to work after completion of regular shift. Registered nurses receive $12 per shift on-call premium.

Probationary period: 375 hours worked.

Discipline: Sunset clause is 12 months for letters of reprimand, 18 months for suspensions, except in case of incidents involving resident abuse.

Severance: 6 weeks’ notice for permanent or long-term layoff and in accordance with ESA. Employees with 9 years’ or more of seniority received 1 additional week’s notice for each year up to 12 weeks. 2 weeks’ notice for short-term layoff.

Uniforms/clothing: Aprons provided to kitchen staff free of charge. Uniform allowance of $13 per month for full-time employees and $7 per month for part-time employees.

Mileage: $0.30 per kilometre for employee who agrees to use personal vehicle for employer’s purposes.
