Renewal agreement: Effective Sept. 1, 2019 to Aug. 31, 2023. Ratified on Dec. 22, 2019. Signed on Dec. 22, 2019.

Wage adjustments:

Effective Sept. 1, 2019: 3%

Effective Sept. 1, 2020: 3%

Effective Sept. 1, 2021: 3%

Effective Sept. 1, 2022: 3%

Shift premium: $1.80 per hour for afternoon; $3 per hour for night (premiums will be paid where 50% or more of hours worked fall within shift as defined above other than day shift). $2 per hour for all employees in field operations who work on afternoon shift on Dec. 31 each year. 200% of normal straight-time rate for employees performing activities requiring personal protective equipment to clean up at track level after train human contact. $2.25 per hour (previously $2 per hour) for level 2 first aid; $2.75 per hour (previously $2.50 per hour) for level 3 first aid.

Paid holidays: 12 days.

Vacations with pay: 120 hours to start, 160 hours after 6 years (previously 7 years), 200 hours after 14 years (previously 15 years), 240 hours after 20 years (previously 21 years), 8 additional hours per year, maximum 280 hours after 24 years. Employee may bank maximum 40 hours (maximum 80 hours for employees with 160 hour of entitlement) to be taken in following year.

Overtime: 200% for time worked prior to onset of regular shift and then revert to normal straight-time rate of pay for employees called out to work overtime immediately preceding scheduled shift. 200% for time worked following regular shift. Time may be banked, maximum 8 shifts or 80 hours, whichever is greater, per vacation year; maximum 120 banked hours at any given time.

Meal allowance: Pay at 1 half-hour, in lieu of meal, at prevailing overtime rate if employee is works more than 2 hours of overtime immediately prior to or following normal working shift. Pay at second half-hour, in lieu of meal, at prevailing overtime rate if employee works more 6 hours of overtime immediately prior to or following normal working shift.

Medical benefits: Employer pays 100% of premiums.

Dental: Employer pays 100% of premiums.

Vision: $300 per person per 12-month period; maximum $600 per person per 24-month period.

Weekly indemnity: Employer pays 100% of premiums.

LTD: Employee pays 100% of premiums.

AD&D: Employer pays 100% of premiums for coverage of $30,000 for basic; $100,000 business travel accident benefit.

Life insurance: Employer pays 100% of premiums for coverage of 150% of annual earnings, maximum $150,000.

Bereavement leave: 5 days for death of spouse, child, mother, father, stepchild, stepmother, stepfather, legal guardian; 3 days for death of sister, brother, father-in-law, mother-in-law, grandparent, grandchild.

Seniority – recall rights: 6 months for employees who leave bargaining unit voluntarily (such as through promotion). 2 years after layoffs.

Probationary period: 500 actual hours worked or 65 actual shifts worked, whichever is less (excluding time spent in classroom training, maximum 80 hours).

Discipline: Sunset clause is 18 months for all documents such as written confirmation of verbal warnings, written warnings, disciplinary notations or letters of reprimand.

Severance: 2 weeks’ earnings after 6 consecutive months of service; 3 weeks’ earnings after 3 consecutive years of service; 1 week’s pay for each additional year of service thereafter. If employees are offered reemployment, employees will be required to refund 1 week’s severance pay for each 2 months of employment until severance pay received in excess of period of layoff is fully refunded.

Safety shoes: $200 per year or $400 every 2 years or 1 pair of heavy (winter) and 1 pair of light (summer) safety footwear per 2 years, maximum $400.

Uniforms/clothing: Employees will be issued 2 pairs of pants, 6 shirts, long or short sleeves or turtlenecks, 2 ties or bows, 2 sweaters (long sleeves or vest), 1 all-weather jacket, 1 dress belt, 1 equipment belt (with pouch), 1 equipment bag, 1 pair of storm pants, 1 identification tag, 2 pairs of shorts, 1 hat, upon hiring. Employer will reimburse 100% of cost of gloves to be purchased: maximum $40 every 12 months or maximum $80 every 24 months. $20 biweekly cleaning allowance for STAs (SkyTrain attendants). Where required, employees will be issued rainwear with replacement on proof of need.

Editor’s notes: Standby: 5 hours at straight-time rate for standby services for week (Saturday midnight to Saturday midnight). Employee on standby for less than full week will be paid at 2.14 hours at straight-time rate for each day on standby. Where standby is required on statutory holiday, employee will receive 10 hours of pay at normal-straight time rate. Hearing protection: $150 every 3 years for WorkSafeBC-approved hearing protection. Hearing aids: $1,250 per person per ear in any 3-year period.
