Wage adjustments:

Shift premium: $1 per hour (previously $0.90 per hour) worked on third shift (4 p.m. to midnight). $1.20 per hour (previously $1.10 per hour) worked on first shift (midnight to 8a.m.). 10% for maintenance-team leaders when working team-lead position.
Paid holidays: 11 days, plus Fête nationale (Quebec only), Civic Day (Ontario only).
Vacations with pay: 3 weeks to start, 4 weeks after 9 years, 5 weeks after 17 years, 6 weeks after 25 years, 7 weeks after 35 years. Employees will receive $50 per week of leave entitlement for that year (payment will be made in April). Employees may carry over 10 days or one-half of previous year’s leave entitlement, to next year.
Overtime: Time and one-half for all work after 8 hours per day or 40 hours per week. Time and one-half for all work on scheduled first day of rest; double time for all work on scheduled second day of rest. Employees required to perform emergency work on overtime basis on days of rest may choose to substitute hours of overtime, maximum 5 days time off in lieu per year.
Meal allowance: Meal or $20 after 2 hours of overtime and every subsequent 4 hours (excluding the meal carried by employee on scheduled overtime or by shift employee on overtime offered on day of rest). $20 per meal entitlement for employees on-board floating plant with food, heating, cooling facilities, except on long voyages where meals and cook are provided.
Medical benefits: Employer pays 100% of premiums.
Dental: Employer pays 100% of premiums.
Sick leave: 1 1/4 days for each completed month of service. After employee has had 2 years of service, employee may be given advance on credits to be earned in future (1 year’s sick-leave accumulation).
LTD: Employer pays 100% of premiums.
Life insurance: Employer pays 100% of premiums.
Pension: SLSMC Private Pension Plan.
Bereavement leave: 5 days for death of spouse (including common-law spouse resident with employee for at least 1 year), parents, children, sisters, brothers. 3 days for death of grandchild, grandparent, father-in-law, mother-in-law, daughter-in-law, son-in-law, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, any relative residing in employee’s household. 2 additional days for associated related bereavement purposes when special circumstances arise from death in family.
Seniority – recall rights: 3 years (1 year after promotion; 2 years to reflect non-accrual of seniority). 24 months for layoffs.
Call-in pay: Minimum 4 hours’ pay at regular rate, if is greater amount than overtime pay would otherwise be. 1 additional hour of pay for return to home from work.
Probationary period: 90 days worked or any combination of 720 scheduled hours worked other than unscheduled overtime. 500 hours of employment for apprentices.
Discipline: Sunset clause is 18 months for all disciplinary actions notes, letters, correspondence.
Severance: 3 months of pay after 2 years of service; 4 months of pay after 3 years of service.
Safety shoes: $185 (previously $175) every year or every 2 years, as per applicable footwear payment schedule. Special consideration will be given to employees with foot deformities.
Uniforms/clothing: Employer will provide coveralls, gloves, uniforms, winter parkas, required safety equipment to employees.

Editor’s notes: Standby: 1/6 of hour for each hour of standby at regular rate or at rate of position for which employee is standing by, whichever is greater. Employees who are on standby during weekend and continue to be on standby during week from Monday night to Friday morning, will be paid 6 hours of pay at regular rate or at rate of position for which employee is standing by, whichever is greater. Travel time: Employee who travels on employer business, other than during regular working hours, will be paid while travelling, maximum 5 hours’ pay each way at time and one-half. Reasonable expenses will be reimbursed in accordance with employer’s travel-expenses policy. Compensatory leave: 5 days (to be taken during non-navigation season, provided they have worked at least 704 hours during navigation season) for employees (excluding operations controllers, structures controllers and canal service technicians) performing canal structures operating tasks, working on lock structures on shift. Personal leave: 1/4 of 1 day for each month of service, maximum 3 days per year. Credits have to be taken during year earned or cash payment of unused credits will be made in February of following year. Medical documents: Employer will pay cost of medical reports when requested by insurance provider or employer. Paid education leave: Employer will pay $0.05 per hour per employee for all hours into Unifor education leave fund.
