Renewal agreement: Effective Jan. 6, 2018 to Jan. 3, 2021. Ratified on April 23, 2019. Signed on June 27, 2019.

Wage adjustments:

Effective Dec. 23, 2019: 1.5%

Shift premium: $1 per hour shift to employees for any hours of shifts (excluding overtime) performed between 6 p.m. and 7 a.m. (when majority of hours of shift occur between 6 p.m. and 7 a.m., premium will apply to all hours worked).

Paid holidays: 12 days, plus latter-half day on last scheduled working day preceding Christmas Day.

Vacations with pay: 2 weeks or 76 hours (38-hour week) or 80 hours (40-hour week) after 1 year; 3 weeks or 114 hours (38-hour week) or 120 hours (40-hour week) after 2 years; 4 weeks or 152 hours (38-hour week) or 160 hours (40-hour week) after 8 years; 5 weeks or 190 hours (38-hour week) or 200 hours (40-hour week) after 17 years; 6 weeks or 228 hours (38-hour week) or 240 hours (40-hour week) after 25 years; 7 weeks or 266 hours (38-hour week) or 280 hours (40-hour week) after 30 years. After employee is entitled to 3 weeks of vacation, 1 week per year, maximum 6 weeks, may be saved and carried forward; after employee is entitled to 5 weeks of vacation, 2 weeks per year, maximum 6 weeks, may be saved and carried forward; after employee is entitled to 6 weeks of vacation, 3 weeks per year, maximum 6 weeks, may be saved and carried forward; after employee is entitled to 7 weeks of vacation, 4 weeks per year, maximum 6 weeks, may be saved and carried forward.

Overtime: Double time for all work after regular hours. Double time for all work after 38 or 40 hours per week for employees engaged in operations requiring scheduled hours of work other than those identified. Double time for all work on regular days off. May be banked and taken as time off in lieu, maximum 40 overtime hours (80 straight-time hours). Unused time will be paid out in pay period 3 of following year.

Medical benefits: Employees are required to participate in Municipal Employees Benefit Association of Calgary.

Pension: All eligible employees will participate in Local Authorities Pension Plan.

Bereavement leave: 7 days for death in immediate family (current spouse, common-law spouse, same-gender spouse, parent, stepparent, guardian, brother, stepbrother, sister, stepsister, child, stepchild, foster-child, ward, grandparents, stepgrandparents of employee, grandchild, stepgrandchild, related dependant living in household of employee, parent-in-law, stepparent-in-law, brother-in-law, stepbrother-in-law, sister-in-law, stepsister-in-law, stepson-in-law, stepdaughter-in-law, grandparent-in-law, stepgrandparent-in-law). Additional 2 days without pay may be granted upon request. 1 day for death of persons related more distantly than those listed or for mourning purposes or to act as pallbearers for funeral of member of union who died on or off job.

Seniority – recall rights: 12 months.

Call-in pay: Minimum of 2 hours’ pay at double time.

Probationary period: Complete 6-month period of work in continuous period of service.

Discipline: Sunset clause is 12 months for written warnings unless subsequent discipline is issued, then all discipline will remain for 24 months; 24 months for discipline levied greater than written warning.

Severance: After 10 years of service, and in addition to normal notice before layoff, employee will receive 2 weeks’ pay at one-half regular pay for each year served beyond 10 years, maximum 26 weeks for technological change separations.

Safety shoes: $75 every year for employer-approved CSA safety footwear.

Uniforms/clothing: $150 for permanent employees, $50 for temporary employees, in lieu of providing uniforms to all employees covered by agreement. Uniform allowance will not be paid to employee when employer provides employee with uniform. All employees will receive 1 pair of coveralls, gloves as required. Recreation shift supervisors will receive sweat-suit, 2 T-shirts, 2 shorts once per year. All employees who perform outdoor work in wet or muddy conditions will receive slickers, 1 pair rubber boots once per year.

Editor’s notes: Service pay: $10 per month after 10 years of service; $15 per month after 15 years of service; $20 per month after 20 years of service; $25 per month after 25 years of service. Standby pay: $25 per day when employee is personally available or accessible during off hours and requirement limits or restricts employee’s activities away from job.
