Renewal agreement: Effective April 1, 2019 to March 31, 2022. Signed on Jan. 17, 2020.
Wage adjustments:
Effective April 1, 2019: 2% GWI and 0.25% service improvement allocation
Effective April 1, 2020: 2% GWI and 0.25% service improvement allocation
Effective April 1, 2021: 2% GWI and 0.25% service improvement allocation
Shift premium: $125 for each weekend faculty member supervises students and treat animals for faculty member in animal health technology program. $301.68 per year (previously $276.02 per year) per full-time employee or equivalent supervised for department chairs.
Paid holidays: 12 days. Christmas Period: Faculty members will have period from Dec. 24 to first business day in New Year as non-working days with pay.
Vacations with pay: Employees will be entitled to vacation period of 40 working days (for employees not appointed Aug. 1, time will be prorated on basis of first appointment year). Sessional employees will receive 4.5% of salary in lieu of vacation, to be paid on termination of contract. During winter semester of each university year, all employees will receive 2-day mid-term break. Employee may carry over portion of annual vacation, maximum 15 working days for use in following year.
Medical benefits: Employer pays 100% of premiums for basic medical insurance under British Columbia Medical Plan
Dental: Employer pays 100% of premiums for 100% of plan A and 70% of plan B.
Sick leave: Coverage of 100% pay for first 30 calendar days of illness. Upon termination of employment of employee with more than 10 years of continuous service, cash payment in lieu of accumulated sick leave will be given, maximum 60 days.
STD: Employer pays 100% of premiums for coverage of 70% for next 21 weeks after sick leave runs out.
LTD: Employer pays 100% of premiums for coverage of 70% on basis of 2-year own occupation.
Life insurance: Coverage of 3 times employee’s annual salary.
Bereavement leave: 5 days for death of family member (employer may provide additional leave with pay).
Seniority – recall rights: 2 years for layoff or employee who has voluntarily accepted reduced workload.
Discipline: Sunset clause is 2 years for disciplinary letter or letter of reprimand.
Severance: Maximum 24 months’ pay.
Mileage: $0.40 per kilometre for personal vehicles use in adventure studies programs. $0.45 per kilometre for personal vehicles use in Canadian mountain and ski guide program programs.

Editor’s notes: Hearing aids: Maximum $2,000 every 5 years (previously $600 every 5 years). Professional allowances: Employer will make available to each tenured, tenure-track or limited term contract member $1,600 per year (will be increased by $50 each year). University instructor members will receive $1,000 professional allowance per academic year. Relocation expenses: Employee accepting full-time sessional contract appointment for more than 1 month and less than 1 year or limited-term contract appointment is eligible for incoming relocation allowance of up to $850. Professional fees: Professional fees will be employer-paid for all employees who are required by employer to hold professional certification as condition of employment. Education loan: All faculty members holding university instructor, limited-term contract, tenure-track, tenured appointments, will be eligible to apply for interest-free education loan to assist with costs of obtaining additional academic qualifications that meets specific needs, goals and objectives identified by employer, up to 12 loans of $15,000 maximum per year.
