Renewal agreement: Effective Jan. 1, 2023 to Dec. 31, 2025. Signed on Feb. 17, 2023.
Wage adjustments:
Effective Jan. 1, 2023: 3%
Effective Jan. 1, 2024: 2.75%
Effective Jan. 1, 2025: 2.75%
Shift premium: $1.40 per hour when employee assumes responsibilities great than job description for specified period of time. $1.90 per hour worked (provided employee works minimum of 2 or more hours) for employee who works evening hours (previously $1.50 per hour) or night hours (previously $1.55 per hour).
Paid holidays: 13 days, including National Indigenous Peoples Day, National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
Vacations with pay: 1.5 days per month to start, 1.92 days per month after 3 years, 2.25 days per month after 8 years, 2.5 days per month after 15 years, 2.92 days per month after 20 years. Leave will not be carried over for more than 1 year. Any credits remaining in excess of 1 year’s entitlement will be paid to employee at end of fiscal year. 3 additional days of leave will be given when employee takes vacation once per year to travel.
Medical benefits: Employer pays 60% of premiums, employee pays 40% of premiums for Northern Employee Benefits Services (NEBS).
Pension: All employees will be enrolled in pension plan provided by Northern Employee Benefits Services (NEBS).
Call-in pay: Greater of compensation at appropriate overtime rate or compensation equivalent to 4 hours of pay at straight-time rate.
Probationary period: 6 months (may be extended for further 6 months). Employees in probationary period — who are terminated after 3 months of employment — will be entitled to 2 weeks’ pay in lieu of notice.
Discipline: Sunset clause is 2 years for any document or written statement related to disciplinary action.
Severance: 2 weeks’ pay for first year of employment; 1 week’s pay for each succeeding year of employment, maximum 28 weeks’ pay.
Safety shoes: $300 per year for safety footwear to employees whom workers safety and compensation commission or NWT Safety Ordinance deems to require safety footwear.

Editor’s notes: Special leave: Employee will accumulate 6 special leave days per year, maximum 30 days. Wellness leave: 3 days per year to promote wellness and maintain good physical and mental health. Northern allowance: $7,947.26 per year (previously $7,715.79 per year) to every indeterminate employee and to every casual employee that exceeds 960 hours of continuous employment. Language bonus: $25 for each hour employee used official language other than English, on behalf of employer if employee uses official language of Northwest Territories other than English during work day.
