Renewal agreement: Effective April 1, 2019 to March 30, 2022. Ratified in November 2019. Signed on Jan. 7, 2021.

Wage adjustments:

Effective April 1, 2019: 1.8%

Effective April 1, 2020: 1.75%

Effective April 1, 2021: 1.75%

Shift premium: $2.10 per hour for standard evening shift (majority of hours between 3:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m.). $2.50 per hour for standard night shift (majority of hours between 11:30 p.m. and 7:30 a.m.). $2.65 per hour for all hours worked on shifts where majority of hours fall between midnight on Friday and midnight on Sunday. $0.50 per hour when performing role of sleep-lab team leader.

Paid holidays: 12 days including 2 float days designated by employer.

Vacations with pay: 1.25 days per month to start, 3 weeks after 1 year, 4 weeks after 3 years, 5 weeks after 12 years, 6 weeks after 21 years, 7 weeks after 27 years.

Overtime: Time and one-half for authorized time worked in excess of 7.5 hours per day or 75 hours averaged over 2-week paid period. Double time for additional overtime hours contiguous with full 7.5-hour overtime shift. For heart and vascular laboratories, time and one-half for hours worked in excess of 7.5 hours per day or 37.5 hours per week. May be taken as time off in lieu but time off must be taken within succeeding 90 days of occurrence of overtime.

Meal allowance: Meal voucher or $6 (if employer is unable to provide voucher) for employees who work more than 2 hours of overtime following scheduled hours of work.

Medical benefits: Employer pays 100% of premiums for extended health care benefits plan.

Dental: Employer pays 50% of premiums, employee pays 50% of premiums. Coverage of recall oral examination once every 6 months; complete and partial dentures, crowns, bridgework, implants and repairs to same at 50/50 co-insurance, maximum $2,000 per person per year; orthodontics 50/50 co-insurance with lifetime maximum $2,000 per insured.

Vision: Employer pays 100% of premiums for coverage of $300 plus 1 eye exam every 24 months.

Paramedical: Employer pays 100% of premiums. Includes coverage for chiropractic, massage therapy, physiotherapy, speech pathologist, psychologist, psychotherapist, social worker; maximum $1,000 per year total for combined services for each insured person.

Sick leave: Up to 15 weeks for permanent full-time employees with at least 3 months’ service. Employees with 4 or more years of service get full salary. 90% for 3 years’ service, 80% for 2 years’ service, 70% for 1 year’s service, 66 2/3% for 3 months’ service.

LTD: Employer pays 75% of premium, employee pays 25% of premiums.

AD&D: Employer pays 100% of premiums.

Life insurance: Employer pays 100% of premiums for group life insurance plan. Employees can contribute to additional voluntary life insurance plan.

Pension: Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP).

Bereavement leave: 4 consecutive paid working days for death of spouse, child, or parent. 3 consecutive paid working days for death of sibling, child-in-law, parent-in-law, sibling-in-law, grandparent, grandchild, guardian, stepparent. 1 paid day for death of aunt, uncle, niece, nephew.

Seniority – recall rights: 24 months for layoffs; 3 months for employee who is transferred to position outside bargaining unit.

Call-in pay: Minimum 4 hours’ pay when called into work outside regular work hours after leaving work. If successive 4-hour call-ins overlap with each other or with regular shift, time and one-half for period of overlap.

Probationary period: 675 hours of work. May be extended up to 452.5 hours.

Discipline: Sunset clause is 18 months for any disciplinary documents (all leaves of absences will not count towards  calculation of 18-month period).

Severance: 2 weeks’ pay for each year of continuous service up to 16 weeks’ pay for resignation. For employees with more than 5 years of service, $3,000 reimbursement of tuition fees within 12 months of resignation. For voluntary exit/early retirement, 2 weeks’ salary for each year of service up to 35 weeks, plus an additional payment of $1,500 for employees with 5 years or less of service and $3,000 for employees with more than 5 years of service.

Mileage: $0.45 per kilometre (or greater amount that hospital may in its discretion determine for each trip) when employee is required to travel to hospital or return to home, due to being called back to work outside of regularly scheduled hours.

Lab assistant/lab-support work: $22.72 (start)/$25.25 (year 3)

Cardiology technologist/general duty/ECG technician/lab technician: $28.34 (start)/$32.14 (year 5)

Cath lab technician/team-leader specimen management/pacemaker technologist: $32.92 (start)/$37.13 (year 5)

Polysomnographic technologist/cardiac-device technologist/technologist arrhythmia service: $38.58 (start)/$43.85 (year 8)

Medical lab technologist/cath lab technologist: $39.80 (start)/$45.59 (year 8)

Medical technical specialist: $42.20 (start)/$47.45 (year 8)

Vascular ultra-sound technologist: $40.92 (start)/$45.46 (year 3)

Editor’s notes: Pre-paid leave plan: Employees may spread 4 years’ salary over 5-year period to enable them to take 1-year leave of absence following 4-year salary deferral. Influenza vaccination: Employees may be required to be vaccinated but have right to refuse. In event of refusal, employee may be placed on unpaid leave of absence during any influenza outbreak. Lieu time or vacation time may be used. Standby: $3.30 per hour for standby time; $4.90 per hour on holidays. Required training: When employee is required by employer to engage in any learning opportunities outside of regularly scheduled working hours, employee will be paid for all time spent on such learning opportunities at regular straight-time rate of pay. Hearing aids: Maximum $400 per person.
