Renewal agreement: Effective Jan. 1, 2019 to Dec. 31, 2021. Signed on April 10, 2019.
Shift premium: $2.50 per hour over employee’s current rate for temporary assignments. Employee will be paid rate of position assigned should employee be assigned out-of-scope position for less than 3 months.
Paid holidays: 13 days, plus Christmas week (Dec. 27 to Dec. 31). Employee will receive 5% of last 28 calendar days of pay for any holiday that occurs within 28 calendar days of employee’s last day of work if employee is laid off.
Vacations with pay: 15 days or 6% to start, 20 days or 8% after 2 years, 25 days or 10% after 4 years, 30 days or 12% after 15 years, 35 days or 14% after 25 years. Unused vacation days can only be carried forward to next year, maximum 10 vacation days from 1 year to another.
Overtime: Time and one-half for hours worked after 7 hours per day, 35 hours per week or 7.75 hours per day or average of 140 hours of 4-week period. Time may be banked, maximum 35 hours (no limit to number of hours that can be banked for overtime banked during statutory holiday, while on vacation or while on approved leave). Public legal educator position may bank up to equivalent of 50 hours. Minimum of 3 hours at double time for all-time worked on statutory holiday, while on vacation or while on approved leave.
Medical benefits: Employer pays 100% of premiums. Employer will provide $750 per year to each employee to use on themselves or family members. For employees who do not otherwise have coverage, employer will pay employee’s monthly premiums for Alberta Health Care Insurance.
Dental: 80% coverage for routine dental. 50% coverage for major dental. $2,000 per year coverage for combine routine and major. 50%, maximum $1,500 per lifetime for dependants younger than 18 (up to 25 if in school) for orthodontics.
Vision: $300 every 24 months; $25 coverage for eye exams.
Paramedical: $500 each with no cap for chiro, podiatrist, massage (need doctor’s note), physio, naturopath, osteopath, dietitian, psycho/social worker, speech therapist (need doctor’s note), acupuncture.
Sick leave: Employees will accrue 2 days credits, with pay, for each month worked. Leave is cumulative from year to year, maximum 120 actual working days.
STD: Employer pays 100% of premiums. Coverage of 2/3 of salary, maximum $750 per week, for 26 weeks.
LTD: Employer pays 100% of premiums. Coverage of 2/3 of salary, maximum $10,000 per month, after 26 weeks.
AD&D: Coverage of 1 times annual salary.
Life insurance: Coverage of 1 times annual salary.
Pension: In addition to employer contributions to Canada Pension Plan, employer will pay bi-weekly 7% of employee’s bi-weekly wages on bi-weekly cheques in lieu of RRSP contributions.
Seniority – recall rights: 12 months for leave of absence to accept temporary assignment to another position with employer outside bargaining unit (time may be extended up to additional 12 months). 90 days for employee transferred to any position within bargaining unit. 1 year after layoffs.
Call-in pay: Minimum 3 hours of pay at overtime rates.
Probationary period: 90 days; employer may extend period additional 90 days (employer may choose to make employee permanent prior to end of second 90-day period).
Discipline: Sunset clause is 2 years for disciplinary measures. However, discipline may not be used against employee after 1 year unless disciplinary action for similar offence has been taken during 1-year period. Employee may request that any other documentation be removed after 2 years unless of administrative nature.
Severance: 4 weeks after 6 months of service; additional 1 week for each year of service thereafter, maximum 10 weeks after 1 year of service.

Editor’s notes: Travel/accommodation/meal allowances/parking: Accommodation expense will be reimbursed. $15 for breakfast allowance; $25 for lunch allowance; $35 for supper allowance. When employees have overnight stay outside of Calgary, employees will receive additional $20 per day or partial day for incidentals; if employee travels out of province, employee will receive additional $30 per day or partial day. Employee will be entitled to compensation for parking. $0.54 per kilometre, calculated to and from office or satellite office; $0.49 per kilometre should travel exceed 3,000 kilometres. Special leave: 1 day off with pay: to be present at birth or adoption proceedings of employee’s child or employee’s grandchild; for moving household effects; for their birthday; for formal hearing to become Canadian citizen. 3 floater days off, with pay, per year. Joint professional development fund: Employer will provide joint professional development fund on annual basis of $750 for each full-time employee; $500 for each part-time employee.
