The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) has disciplined more than 1,000 employees for professional misconduct — including failure to protect taxpayers’ information.

In total, there were 1,071 cases of misconduct recorded since April 2014, according to documents obtained by the CBC.

Failure to protect CRA and taxpayers’ information was the primary reason for suspension, reprimand or termination of staff.

Other misconduct issues included failure to protect the agency’s reputation, failure to foster a healthy, respectful workplace, and failure to protect and manage public funds, according to the CBC.

The CRA employs 44,000 workers.
