CPP form available online

The CPT30 form, which will allow employees affected by the changes to the Canada Pension Plan (CPP) in 2012 to opt out of contributions, is now available online. The form, called CPT30 (Election to Stop Contributing to the Canada Pension Plan or revocation of a Prior Election) is for employees who are at least 65 years old but younger than 70 who are collecting CPP or Quebec Pension Plan (QPP). These employees will be able to choose whether or not they want to contribute to the CPP as of Jan. 1. If they choose not to contribute they will have to fill out the form, send the original to the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) and send a copy to their payroll department. But this process should not be completed yet, according to the CRA. The page the form has been posted on notes employees should not complete the form, give a copy to their employers or send the original to the CRA before Dec. 1. The form can be viewed as a PDF at: www.cra-arc.gc.ca/E/pbg/tf/cpt30/cpt30-11e.pdf

Service Canada makes changes to ROE Web

Service Canada is changing the Record of Employment (ROE) Web service on Oct. 16 to include an online legal agreement. There will also be new security features, a simplified ROE Web registration form and a consent form for payroll service provider clients. Companies already registered for ROE Web will have to have their ROE Web administrator (primary officer) accept a new online agreement when he logs in to ROE Web after Oct. 16.  All ROE Web users will be prompted to complete a professional profile and identify security questions the first time they log in to ROE Web after Oct. 16.  Employers and payroll service providers that have a paper agreement have until September 2012 to accept the online agreement. After this date, employers and service providers that have not accepted the new online agreement will have to contact Service Canada to reactivate their access to ROE Web. If the primary officer at an organization has left the company or is no longer in that role, the company will have to choose a new officer who will have to complete a Change of PO form.

British Columbia

B.C. to have Family Day as of 2013

British Columbia will join three other provinces in celebrating Family Day, according to the provincial government. The new provincial statutory holiday will be celebrated on the third Monday of every February, however, it won’t be introduced until Feb. 18, 2013, in recognition of the time employers will need to adjust to the new holiday.  The announcement came as part of the minister’s throne speech opening the fourth session of the 39th Parliament, which focused on job creation, building stronger, safer communities and continuing to open up government for British Columbia families.
