9,000: Amazon boosting hires for holiday season in Canada

Amazon plans to fill 9,000 seasonal jobs at 55 sites across its Canadian operations network this holiday season, the company announced today, with the average hourly base wage for the temporary roles set at nearly $24.

The seasonal hiring drive covers fulfilment centres, sortation centres and delivery stations, and tops the company’s fall 2025 campaign, when it said it would hire more than 7,000 seasonal employees in Canada.

The average hourly base wage for seasonal roles will be nearly $24, says the company. All roles include select benefits from day one.

Employees who transition into permanent roles join a full- and part-time workforce earning an average hourly base wage of more than $26, says Amazon.

Previously, the company said it is spending more than $78 million this year to lift the average hourly base wage for operations staff by $1, or 4%.

The retail giant says it plans to hire more than 300,000 workers for the US holiday season, a marked increase to the 250,000 workers hired during the season for the past three years

On Aug. 4, 2026, the British Columbia Labour Relations Board (BCLRB) ordered a first collective agreement for YVR2 to be settled through binding arbitration, as detailed in coverage of the B.C. labour board’s arbitration order against Amazon. Amazon is appealing and wants the process paused until ballots from a July 2026 employee decertification vote are counted.

Amazon has also warned that scammers increasingly impersonate well-known employers during fourth-quarter hiring. It never charges fees and urged targeted Canadians to contact the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre (CAFC). Employers face risks too, as outlined in our look at how recruitment scams that impersonate real employers work.
