Ontario safety campaign focuses on low-rise residential construction

Blitz targets on-site hazards, including trench and excavation cave-ins

The Ontario Ministry of Labour in is focusing on hazards in low-rise residential construction workplaces during an enforcement blitz.

The blitz is taking place throughout May. The increased enforcement will look to ensure workers home building projects are trained and supervised on jobs, using proper safety measure to prevent injury and are properly protected from any on-site hazards including trench or excavation cave-ins.

Home building is responsible for 96 per cent of all residential construction compensation claims for injuries involving lost time at work, according to statistics from the province.
