Seeing the workplace with new eyes and guide for power line hazards

Seeing the workplace with new eyes
A new guide from SafeWork Manitoba is designed for all members of health and safety committees. Seeing the Workplace with New Eyes aims to help new health and safety committee members to learn responsibilities and also to help established committees evaluate and improve upon strengths and weaknesses. The 372-page document covers all the basics of a health and safety committee including communication skills and assessing effectiveness. The guide also provides a long list of principles for health and safety at work and toolboxes for committee processes.

Power line hazards
The Workplace Health, Safety and Compensation Commission of Newfoundland and Labrador has released a guide to avoiding electrical contacts with power lines. Power Line Hazards is a 12-page handbook designed for contractors and equipment operators. The guide outlines how to spot potential hazards, why they might be dangerous and how to properly protect yourself and others. It also explains what to do in the event of an emergency involving a power line. In 2010, there were about 50 public contacts with power lines in the province.
