Mandatory Ontario posters — Ontario Human Rights Commission policy for competing human rights issues

Mandatory posters for Ontario workplaces

Beginning Oct. 1, 2012, the posting of the Ontario Ministry of Labour's Health & Safety at Work: Prevention Starts Here poster will be enforced by inspectors. The poster informs workers of their rights and sets out the roles for employers, supervisors, and workers so they can work together to make workplaces safer. Ontario Human Rights Commission releases policy for competing human rights issues

The problem of competing human rights arises when showing respect for the human rights of one party results in the violation of the legal rights of another party. For example, a manger may be faced with a situation where one employee is confined to a wheelchair, while another employee finds the wheelchair poses a safety hazard. The Ontario Human Rights Commission has published the Policy on Competing Human Rights to deal with this issue.
