Canada's top 100 employers

Mediacorp releases seventh annual list

What gets a company named one of Canada’s Top 100 Employers?

For Canada Post, strong leadership and a willingness to listen to employees helped the corporation break into the top 100, for the first time this year.

For three-time honouree Seven Oaks General Hospital in Winnipeg, the services offered by the hospital's 80,000-square-foot Wellness Institute, which help turn injured and illness-prone employees into happier, healthier workers, has solidified its position as a Top 100 Employer.

Over the past seven years, the book's publisher, Mediacorp Canada Inc., has found that the top companies have been offering more and better benefits.

Generous vacation entitlements of three, four or even five weeks in the first year are the norm instead of the exception, as are generous pension plan contributions and maternity top-ups, with some companies offering top ups of as much as 95 per cent.

Other winners provide services that give employees peace of mind, such as on-site daycare or take-home dinners. Even the small but memorable extras such as free organic, fair-trade coffee or free turkeys at Christmas, can help a company make it on the list.
