CCHRA announces new president

National HR association releases the names of 2008 executive committee

The Canadian Council of Human Resources Associations has appointed Merrill Brinton as the association's new president. His term will run until October 2009.

Brinton, with more than 30 years of experience in senior management positions in HR and industrial relations, is the Saskatchewan region HR practice leader for Meyers Norris Penny, the Calgary-based accounting and advisory firm.

“I am pleased to be starting my term as president of the CCHRA at a very exciting time in the council’s development,” said Brinton. “I look forward to working with the CCHRA board and management team in our continued efforts to ensure excellence in the HR profession in Canada.”

Brinton takes over from Diane Wiesenthal, who served as council president from 2005 to 2007 and is the vice-president of HR at the Canadian Wheat Board in Manitoba.

Other members of the 2008 executive committee include: Paul Cassidy, accreditation vice-president with the Human Resources Association of New Brunswick, as treasurer; and David Knudson, HR business partner for the City of Calgary, as secretary.
