Chief global membership officer appointed at SHRM

Janet Parker has been appointed chief global membership officer at the Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM) in Alexandria, Va.

Parker was the former chair of the SHRM board of directors from 2007 to 2008 and during her 20 years as a SHRM member, held numerous local, regional and national volunteer leadership positions, including chapter president for the Birmingham Society for Human Resource Management, State Council Director for Alabama and SHRM Foundation campaign chair.

Parker was also executive vice-president for human resources at Regions Financial in Birmingham, Al., a full-service consumer and commercial banks, where she was responsible for providing strategic HR direction to the consumer services, business services and trust divisions.

"With a distinguished career in human resources and with SHRM, Janet brings a wealth of knowledge to the chief global membership position," said SHRM president and CEO Laurence G. O'Neil.

Parker has testified before congressional committees as an HR professional, and she was appointed by former president George Bush to serve on the President's Advisory Council on Financial Literacy in 2008. She replaces China Miner Gorman who will oversee SHRM's United States and international membership programs beginning in mid-July.
