HRPA takes over Toronto chapter

New interim board to be announced within 7 days

The Human Resources Professionals Association (HRPA) has taken over the operation of the Toronto chapter of HRPA, announced Antoinette Blunt, chair of the HPRA board, on Dec. 21.

The board of the Toronto Personnel Professional Association (TPPA) has operated the Toronto chapter of HRPA since 2004.

In an email to members, Blunt said TPPA violated the code of conduct for directors of chapters of HRPA.

"HRPA has an obligation and responsibility to govern the HR profession, to represent our members' interests and protect the reputation and integrity of the profession," said Blunt.

Other areas of concern raised by Blunt in the email included member equity having declined from close to $400,000 in 2008 to less than $20,000 and the chapter being in the bottom 10 per cent of all chapters in terms of member engagement.

The board of the TPPA has denied the allegations of the HRPA, and have posted information on their website, https://www.thrpa.com/.

HRPA will be appointing an interim board of directors for the chapter by Dec. 28 and will establish a process to elect a new board as soon as possible.

The association has invited interested Toronto chapter members to apply for a board position.

Updates will be available on the new Toronto chapter website.
