Immigration ministers to meet in Winnipeg

Recognizing foreign credentials on the agenda as federal, provincial and territorial ministers meet

Federal, provincial and territorial ministers responsible for immigration are holding an intensive one-day meeting in Winnipeg on Oct. 16.

Becky Barrett, Manitoba’s Labour and Immigration Minister, said planning for immigration levels, recognizing foreign credentials and recruiting skilled immigrants to meet regional economic needs will be on the agenda.

“The meeting agenda is substantial and timely and we hope it will set the stage for increased and ongoing collaboration,” said Barrett. “All jurisdictions can benefit from a more co-ordinated approach to immigration and settlement through improved planning as Canada tries to attract skilled and knowledgeable immigrants.”
