HALIFAX — Nova Scotia has proposed amendments to its Human Rights Act that add gender identity and gender expression as protected grounds. Jobseekers denied a position because they are transgender will be able to file a human rights complaint on that basis; before they had to file a complaint based on sex or disability.
Manitoba proposes new job leave for parents
WINNIPEG — Manitoba has introduced legislative amendments that would create new job-protected work leaves for parents. Parents would be allowed up to 37 weeks off work to care for a critically ill child, up to 104 weeks off work if a child has died as a result of a crime and up to 52 weeks off work if a child has disappeared as a result of a crime.
