TORONTO — The law firm leading a lawsuit against Ontario’s Ministry of Labour hotline for allegedly giving negligent advice about severance entitlements has launched an app to calculate severance pay. The app has an "employer mode" to calculate a fair severance package, reducing the possibility of a lawsuit, said the firm Samfiru Tumarkin in Toronto. The app is applicable across Canada, not just in Ontario.

TORONTO — If government workers were compensated at private sector norms, Canadian families would have an extra $3,110 per year to put towards their own retirement, according to the Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB). Taking into account wages and benefits, government employees are compensated between 25 to 42 per cent above the private sector, it said.
