Technology hiring expected to increase

More IT professionals required before end of year

Chief information officers (CIOs) expect a net 12 per cent increase in information technology hiring in the final quarter of 2001. Seventeen per cent stated that their firms planned to add IT personnel, while five per cent expected to reduce staff, according to RHI Consulting’s Information Technology Hiring Index.

The most likely industries to hire IT staff over the next three months are finance, insurance and real estate. Hiring increases are also projected in the wholesale and professional services industries.

An independent research firm polled 276 CIOs in Canadian companies with at least 100 employees to compile the Index.
