Tourism HR sector council takes training online

Website bills itself as a "one-stop shop" for training information

The Canadian Tourism Human Resource Council has launched a national brand, known as “emerit,” of tourism training, standards and professional certification.

The new website, located at www.emerit.ca, offers a one-stop shop for information on training and professional recognition in both French and English.

“It’s a learning resource for industry professionals with online training in flexible modularized formats for selected occupations, and online exams for more than 25 occupations from frond desk agent to casino dealer to food and beverage manager,” read a statement put out by the council. “New professional recognition options are also available depending on level of knowledge and expertise. The ‘what’s new’ page lists the latest information and resources and its storefronts feature Canada’s most comprehensive collection of tourism training resources.”

emerit was developed by the Canadian Tourism Human Resource Council in partnership with Tourism Education Councils across the country and representatives from industry, labour and education. The council brings together tourism businesses, labour unions, associations, educators and government to coordinate HR development.
