— The Ontario Society for Training and Development’s metamorphosis into a national body will officially take place in November, when the Canadian Society for Training and Development is launched at the Knowledge Exchange conference and trade show. The new national organization will promote the training and development certification program across the country. OSTD members will automatically become members of the national body. New sector council

Ottawa
— The automotive industry, which employs 209,000 workers, is getting federal money for a new human resource sector council, bringing the total number of sector councils to 26. Sector councils identify industry-wide HR challenges and implement long-term planning and skills development strategies for their respective industries. The new Automotive Manufacturing Sector Council will represent businesses in auto manufacturing, new and used vehicle retail, as well as the aftermarket industry.

New professional designation

Alexandria, Va.
— The American Society for Training and Development is getting together with the International Society for Performance Improvement to offer a Certified Performance Technologist Designation. For more information see www1.astd.org/CPT.
