Organ donor leave available in Quebec

On Feb. 28, Bill 125, which creates an organ donor registry and allows for unpaid leave of absences for donors, came into effect in Quebec. This bill amends An Act respecting labour standards and allows for an unpaid leave of absence of up to 26 weeks to workers who donate organs or tissues.

New addictions toolkit available

Employers in Atlantic Canada have a new tool to help address addiction problems. The Problematic Substance Abuse toolkit is the product of a three-year project and addresses both substance abuse and gambling. It also tackles myths about problematic substance use and employment, presents case studies and offers tips for prevention and intervention. A PDF of the 76-page toolkit can be downloaded at www.gov.pe.ca/photos/original/hpei_addic_kit.pdf.

T4 Web forms service for business filers

As of January, employers can electronically file up to six T4 slips using the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) T4 web forms service. The online, interactive service eliminates the need to send paper copies of T4 slips to the CRA by allowing employers to file them online at www.cra-arc.gc.ca/esrvc-srvce/rf/t4-wbfrms/menu-eng.html.
