Collective agreement: Hotel Dieu Grace Healthcare

Renewal agreement: Sept. 29, 2023 to Sept. 28, 2025. 

Wage adjustments:  

2023: 3% 
2024: 3% 

Shift premium: $2.98 per hour where the majority of the shift occurs between 11 p.m. and 7:30 a.m. or between 3 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. $3.14 per hour for all hours worked on the first shift Saturday to the last shift Sunday, and on paid holidays. 

Paid holidays: 12 days. 

Vacations with pay: 3 weeks after 1 year, 4 weeks after 5 years, 5 weeks after 12 years, 6 weeks after 20 years, 7 weeks after 28 years. 

Overtime: Time-and-a-half, calculated to nearest 15 minutes, for all time worked in excess of 7.5 (normal tours) or 11.25 (extended tours) in any one day, or 75 (normal tours) or 78 (extended tours) in a pay period, or any time worked on a scheduled day off. 

Meal allowance: $10 for employees who work a second consecutive full tour or more than 2 hours overtime following a full tour. 

Medical Benefits: Employer pays 100% of the premiums for Ontario Health Insurance Plan, including co-pay drug prescription plan. 

Dental: Employer pays 75% of premium for plan covering 75% of costs. 50/50 co-insurance for crowns, bridgework and repairs to $1,000 per family member annual maximum. $2,000 lifetime maximum per family member for orthodontics. 

Vision: $450 per 24 months for glasses or laser eye surgery. 100% of eye exams every 24 months. 

Short-term disability: Employer pays 75% of premium for coverage under Hospital of Ontario Disability Income Plan (HOODIP). 

Long-term disability: Employer pays benefit premiums for first 30 months of absence due to illness or injury compensable under the Workers Compensation Board. 

Life insurance: Employer pays 100% of the premiums for coverage of two times the employee’s annual salary to the nearest $500. 

Pension: Participation in Hospitals of Ontario Pension Plan required for full-time employees, optional for part-time employees. 

Bereavement leave: 4 paid days for death of spouse, child, or parent. 3 paid days for death of grandparent, spouse’s grandparent, sibling, parent-in-law, grandchild, sibling-in-law, step-parent, step-child, and legal guardian. 1 paid day for death of aunt, uncle, niece, or nephew. 1 day may be deferred for delayed funeral, interment, or celebration of life. 
 
Sick leave:
Full-time employees: HOODIP or equivalent plan. Part-time employees: 3 days after 3 months of continuous employment plus 1 day for each additional month. After 1 year of employment, 1.5 days per additional month, up to 18 in a year. Can be carried over and accumulated up to 150 days. 

Seniority – recall rights: 48 months. 

Probationary period: 60 days of work or 450 hours of work within any 12 calendar months. 

Discipline: Sunset clause is 15 months. 

Severance: 2 weeks’ salary for each year of continuous service to a maximum of 16 weeks for employee resigning within 30 days after receiving notice of layoff. 

Uniforms/clothing: Annual uniform allowance of $110 (full-time employees) and $55 (part-time employees) for employees required to wear uniform. Damaged uniforms replaced at employer’s expense. 

Mileage: $0.55 per hour for employees using their own cars and are called in. 

Sample rates of pay:  

Registered practical nurse: $35.42-$37.05 (2023) rising in 1 step to $36.48-$38.16 (2024). 
Certified rehab assistant: $31.91-$33.36 (2023) rising in 1 step to $32.87-$34.36 (2024). 

Editor’s Notes: Employees who refuse to take influenza vaccine will be reassigned during an outbreak or, if reassignment not possible, placed on unpaid leave (can use banked lieu time or vacation credits to continue pay).
