Collective agreement: Municipality of Chatham-Kent

Renewal agreement: January 1, 2024 to December 31, 2027.

Wage adjustments:

2024: 3%
2025: 3%
2026: 2.7%
2027: 2.8%

Shift premium: $0.85 per hour for each regular hour worked during weekends (employees on 7-day continuous shift schedule) and for hours worked on a shift where 4 or more hours occur after 3 p.m., provided the employee is not eligible for overtime.

Paid holidays: 13 days.

Vacations with pay: 2 weeks to start, 3 weeks after 4 years, 4 weeks after 9 years, 5 weeks after 15 years, 6 weeks after 20 years.

Overtime: Time-and-a-half for all hours worked in excess of 8 in a day or 40 in a week. Double time for all hours worked on a Sunday.

Medical Benefits: Employer pays 100% of premiums for extended health coverage including prescription drugs and paramedical services.

Dental: Employer pays 100% of premiums for basic care coverage based on ODA fee guide. 60% co-insurance for dentures up to $2,500 per calendar year, 60% co-insurance for major restorative up to $2,500 per calendar year. 50% co-insurance for orthodontics up to $3,000 lifetime per dependent.

Vision: $400 every 24 months

Long-term disability: 70% of basic monthly compensation to a maximum of $12,000 per month, starting at the later of 180 days or expiration of sick leave credits.

Life insurance: Employer pays 100% of premiums for coverage of 2.5 times annual salary up to a maximum of $500,000. Optional increments of $10,000 available for purchase, up to $200,000 (self and spouse).

Pension: Employer participates in OMERS

Bereavement leave: 3 paid working days for death of spouse, child, step-child, parent, sibling, parent-in-law, sibling-in-law, grandparent, grandchild, child-in-law (including step relationships). Employees may use 2 sick days to supplement if accumulated sick bank is at least 75 days. 1 paid working day for death of aunt, uncle, niece, nephew, grandparent-in-law, fellow employee, or to act as pallbearer or flower bearer.

Sick leave: 1.5 days per calendar month worked. For each 7 working days not worked in a month, one-half day shall not accumulate (except for approved leave). Days can accumulate to a maximum of 300. When employee turns 65, sick days reduced to 75.

Seniority – recall rights: 24 months.

Call-in pay: At least 3 hours at prevailing overtime rates, unless continuous with regular shift.

Probationary period: 90 working days within a 12-month period.

Discipline: Sunset clause is 2 years.

Safety shoes: $160 per year towards the cost of 1 pair of CSA approved safety shoes or boots.

Uniforms/clothing: Public Workers/Transfer Stations/Fleet: 5 pairs of pants, 6 shirts of employee’s choice of style, 1 safety orange parka, 1 safety orange thermal coveralls, 1 pair of rubber thermal boots, 2 pairs of coveralls, 1 safety orange jacket or sweatshirt. Parks, Recreation & Cemeteries/Horticulture/Building Maintenance/Cultural Centre: 5 pairs of pants, 6 shirts of employee’s choice of style, 1 parka, 1 pair of thermal coveralls, 1 rubber thermal boots, 2 pairs of coveralls,, 1 jacket or sweatshirt. Custodians: 5 pairs of paints, 6 shirts of employee’s choice of style, 1 parka, 1 jacket or sweatshirt. Replace on an “as required” basis.

Mileage: Where employees are authorized to use their own vehicle on approved business, they shall be paid the current municipal rate. $70 per month for employees required to have their vehicles available for use to carry out the employer’s work.

Auto service technician: $36.13 (2024) rising in 3 steps to $39.58 (2027).
Water/wastewater operator: $31.61 (2024) rising in 3 steps to $34.64 (2027).
Lead hand: $29.66 (2024) rising in 3 steps to $32.25 (2027).
Equipment operator: $29.06 (2024) rising in 3 steps to $31.84 (2027).
Facility operator/assistant facility officer/canteen supervisor: $28.63 (2024) rising in 3 steps to $31.21 (2027).
Building maintenance: $28.43 (2024) rising in 3 steps to $30.92 (2027).
Animal control officer: $20.30 (2024) rising in 3 steps to $22.08 (2027).
