Renewal agreement: April 1, 2025 to March 31, 2028.
Wage adjustments:
2025: 2%
Wages to be negotiated on April 1, 2026, and April 1, 2027.
Shift premium: $1.25 per hour for all hours worked between 4 p.m. and midnight. $1.50 per hour for all hours worked between midnight and 8 a.m. $0.75 per hour for all hours worked on weekends.
Paid holidays: 15 days.
Vacations with pay: 18 days (12 hours per 173 hours worked) to start, 21 days (14 hours per 173 hours worked) after the earlier of 3 years/6,000 hours, 24 days (16 hours per 173 hours worked) after the earlier of 5 years/10,000 hours, 27 days (18 hours per 173 hours worked) after the earlier of 9 years/18,000 hours, 30 days (20 hours per 173 hours worked) after the earlier of 14 years/28,000 hours. In addition, 6 days of personal wellness leave each year base on hours worked in the previous 12 months.
Overtime: Time-and-a-half for hours of work in excess of 8 in a 24-hour period or 40 hours in a normal work week. The choice to take or refuse overtime work is based on seniority. Employees who work mandatory overtime receive additional compensation of 1 hour of compensatory leave for every hour worked, to a maximum of 10 days.
Medical Benefits: Employer contributes 6% of gross wages to self-directed benefits plan for all employees who have completed probation.
Dental: Part of self-directed benefits plan.
Vision: Part of self-directed benefits plan.
Long-term disability: Part of self-directed benefits plan.
Life insurance: Part of self-directed benefits plan.
Pension: Employees may apply once per calendar year to have all or a portion of their benefits paid into a personal RRSP. Employer and employee each contribute 2% of gross pay to Group RRSP.
Bereavement leave: 4 paid days for death parent, step-parent, foster parent, grandparent, grandchild, sibling, step-sibling, partner, child, step-child, partner’s child, partner of child, partner’s parent, aunt, uncle, niece, nephew, sibling-in-law, co using, step-grandparent, step-aunt, step-uncle, or any other person residing with the employee at the time of death or imminent death. 1 day can be taken on a separate occasion within 24 months for a service or potlatch. 1 week (including 4 paid days) where there is an imminent death in the employee’s family. Up to 3 paid days for employee must travel out of Whitehorse. Upon request of employee, up to one week leave without pay for death of family member who is not included in the list above.
Sick leave: 9 hours of sick leave credits per 173 hours worked following completion of probationary period. May be carried over each year and accumulated indefinitely.
Probationary period: 480 hours worked or 6 months, whichever occurs first. May be extended up to 4 months or 320 hours, whichever comes first, with reasons in writing.
Severance: For employees with more than 10,000 hours of service: Severance bonus of one-half the employee’s average weekly pay for the 12 previous months multiplied by the number of completed years of continuous service.
Sample rates of pay:
Transition home worker, mother child support worker, second stage co-ordinator: $31.90 to $34.49 (2025).
Finance and administration assistant: $34.99 to $37.84 (2025).
Editor’s Notes: After 1 year of service, employees are entitled to a Yukon bonus on each anniversary date. The Yukon bonus is a cash payment of $1,500 for the employee and $500 for any child of the employee under 19 who is currently living with the employee, up to 3 children. Employees who complete 10,000 hours or 7 years of service receive 2% long service bonus each year. Employees who complete 18,000 hours or 10 years receive a 4% bonus each year.
