Renewal agreement: Effective April 1, 2024, to March 31, 2026. Ratified in May 2024. Signed on April 26, 2024.
Wage adjustments:
Effective January 1, 2024: 6% Site Assignment Uplift.
Effective July 1, 2024: $1.40 increase in wages.
Effective January 1, 2025: Negotiation of wage schedules.
Shift premium: Night shift differential: $1.75 per hour for all hours worked when fifty percent (50%) or more of the schedule shift falls between the hours of 6:00 pm and 6:00 am.
Paid holidays: 12 statutory holidays plus National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
Vacations with pay: 6% of gross earnings.
Overtime: Paid at 1.5x for hours beyond 8 per day or 40 per week.
Meal allowance: Provided when working 12+ hours; paid meal break at 12 hours.
Medical benefits: Eligible after 350 hours worked.
Dental: Included in Health and Welfare Plan.
STD: Leave without pay: domestic violence, citizenship ceremony, personal and family responsibility.
LTD: Without pay leave: reservist, death or disappearance of a child, compassionate care, critical illness, long-term illness or injury.
AD&D: Drug and Alcohol Policy that complies with current legislation. In general, the parties agree to use the most current Construction Owners Association of Alberta (“COAA”) Model for Providing a Safe Workplace.
Life insurance: Included in Health and Welfare Plan.
Pension: Employer contributes a percentage of wages.
Bereavement leave: 3 days for immediate family, 1 day for extended family.
Call-in pay: 3 hours minimum.
Probationary period: 90 days.
Discipline: Progressive discipline policy with a sunset clause of 12 months.
Safety shoes: $175 Safety Boot Allowance after 1850 hours.
Uniforms/clothing: Employer provides PPE, including gloves and coveralls.
Tool allowance: Not specified, but basic tool lists are provided.
Mileage: $0.59/km for personal vehicle use when required.
Sample rates of pay (current, after increase):
Carpenter Foreperson: $43.11.
Carpenter Journeyperson Level 1: $39.81.
Editor’s notes:
An unusual aspect is the provision for a “Site Assignment Uplift” of 6% added to hourly rates, unique to the site. Additionally, the agreement includes comprehensive overtime policies and provides for a safety boot allowance only after 1850 hours worked.
