Renewal agreement: Effective June 30, 2021 to Jan. 31, 2022. Signed on June 30, 2021.

Shift premium: Employee replacing employee at higher-rated position for 1 full day or more will receive higher-rated pay for period employed providing employee fulfills principal duties of higher-rated job. $2 per hour for employees who provide training/preceptorship to other employees. $2 per hour for employees assigned to do additional duties as administrative team-lead for administrative professionals and clerks.

Paid holidays: 11 days plus 1 civic holiday, 1 Christmas floater day.

Vacations with pay: 1.25 days per month to start, 15 days after 1 year, 20 days after 3 years, 25 days after 9 years, 30 days after 14 years, 35 days after 19 years. 5 additional work days on 1-time basis only for employee who has completed 25 years of service.

Overtime: Time and one-half for first 2 hours of work after scheduled daily hours; double time after 2 hours of overtime. For those employees not eligible for overtime, they will be credited 5 days off for every 3 months worked; employees who work on Saturday will be paid time and one-half; double time for work on Sunday. Employees may take time off in lieu but it will be paid out at Dec. 31 each year.

Medical benefits: Employer pays 100% of premiums. Employer will deposit $1,650 (previously $1,500) into employee flexible health/personal spending account each year. Any unused allocation as of Dec. 31 of each year may be carried forward, maximum 1 year.

Vision: Employer pays 100% of premiums.

Sick leave: Every permanent employee will be entitled to illness leave of 85 days at full pay.

LTD: Employer pays 100% of premiums.

AD&D: Employer pays 100% of premiums.

Life insurance: Employer pays 100% of premiums.

Pension: Employer will pay monthly: 14% of employee’s actual earnings, up to normal monthly salary, into AUPE staff pension plan (or when employee is not member of plan, RRSP of employee’s choice).

Bereavement leave: 5 days for death in immediate family (spouse, parents, guardian, parent-in-law, grandparent, grandchild, son, daughter, brother, sister, or husband or wife of any of them; person residing in employee’s household).

Seniority – recall rights: 1 year after layoffs. 12 months for employees on LTD on pre-disability classification; 36 months on their classification (any location) as long as employment relationship continues. For employees who are seconded, seniority will cease to accrue on day employee begins out-of-scope position; employee’s seniority will be frozen until they return to bargaining unit.

Probationary period: 6 months from date of hire.

Discipline: Sunset clause is 12 months for disciplinary correspondence. All absences for illness or leaves of absence longer than 30 calendar days will not count towards fulfillment of 12-month period.

Severance: 1 month’s salary for each year of service, maximum 12 months.

Safety shoes: Employer will provide $200 (previously $130) to permanent employees in following classifications: custodian, building-maintenance custodian, building-maintenance coordinator, clerks 1, 2, 3 (mailroom), for safety footwear or special footwear that must be worn during work hours and will be replaced as necessary by employer.

Tool allowance: Employer will provide attaché cases and such other equipment employer considers necessary for employee to effectively and safely perform duties.

Mileage: $0.52 per kilometre for employee who uses own vehicle on behalf of employer. Employer will provide $900 per month (previously $875 per month) for union representatives, MSOs, sr. MSOs, advisor, organizer. sr. organizer advisors, senior research advisors, senior digital strategies advisors, communications department coordinators (plus $0.12 per kilometre when vehicle incurs overage of more than 25,000 AUPE business kilometres per year); employer will pay full cost of vehicle plates and insurance including spouse coverage, maximum $3,000 per year; employee will be provided with credit card to purchase gas and oil.

Editor’s notes: Employee expenses for employer business: When employee travels overnight on behalf of employer, employee will be reimbursed meal allowance, overnight accommodation, overnight per diem: $12 for breakfast; $14 for lunch; $25 for dinner. $10 per diem within Alberta; $15 per diem for out of province. $50 for employee on own accommodations. Addition of family care expenses incurred over and above normally incurred expenses may be claimed, maximum $100 per day. Convention expenses: Employees assigned to convention committee or assigned to work full convention of Alberta Union of Provincial Employees will receive allowance equal to that set by provincial executive for delegates plus convention allowance of $50. Moving allowances: Employer will pay for cost of transportation of household effects and incidental expenses associated with change of residence, maximum $500, when employees are required to change place of domicile.
