Renewal agreement: Effective Jan. 1, 2021 to Dec. 31, 2023. Ratified in March 2021. Signed on May 19, 2021.

Wage adjustments:

Effective Jan. 1, 2021: 1.5%

Effective Jan. 1, 2022: 1.5%

Effective Jan. 1, 2023: 1.75%
Shift premium: $1 per hour for all shifts in which majority of hours are worked between 4 p.m. and 8 a.m. and day shifts on Saturdays and Sundays. 15% when employee is designated to relieve in position of higher rating as department head for 1 full shift or more.

Paid holidays: 11 days.

Vacations with pay: 2 weeks or 4% after 1 year of service, 3 weeks or 6% after 3 years, 4 weeks or 8% after 7 years, 5 weeks or 10% after 12 years, 6 weeks or 12% after 20 years, 7 weeks or 14% after 28 years.

Overtime: Time and one-half for all hours worked in excess of 8 per day and on paid holidays and Sundays and on scheduled day off. Time and one-half for all hours worked after 80 hours biweekly.

Medical benefits: Employer pays 100% of premiums of Ontario Hospital Insurance Commission.

Dental: Employer pays 100% of premiums for maximum health dental care plan 7 plus rider 1 and 2 – current Ontario Dental Association (ODA) schedule of fees.

Vision: Employer pays 100% of premiums for coverage of $350 (previously $285) plus cost of 1 examination per 24 months for employees and dependants.

Sick leave: 1.5 days for each full month of service. Can be accumulated up to 250 days. Upon leaving employment 50% of unused credits will be paid in cash up to 6 months’ salary.

Pension: All employees are enrolled in Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement Plan (OMERS) with both employer and employees making contributions.

Bereavement leave: 5 paid days for death of current spouse, fiancé, child, stepchild, parent. 3 paid days for death of sibling, parent-in-law, sibling-in-law, grandparent, spouse’s grandparent, grandchild, stepparent, any second-degree relative who has been residing in same household. 1 paid day for death of aunt or uncle. 1 day may be banked for service or interment at later date.

Seniority – recall rights: 24 months after layoffs; 30 months from time disability or illness commenced if employee is absent due to illness or disability.

Call-in pay: Minimum 3 hours’ pay.

Probationary period: 3 months for full-time employees; 70 shifts for part-time employees. May be extended by up to 50 shifts worked.

Uniforms/clothing: $3.30 every 2 weeks (previously $3 every 2 weeks) for each full-time employee required to wear uniform. $1.75 (previously $1.50 every 2 weeks) every 2 weeks for each part-time employee required to wear uniform.

Mileage: $0.45 per kilometre for employees who use own vehicles to travel on job.

Cook: $26.42 rising 2 steps to $27.29

Housekeeping help, laundry help, semi skilled: $22.13 rising 2 steps to $22.85

HCA (certificate), PSW: $24.43 rising 2 steps to $25.23

Respite care worker: $24.10 rising 2 steps to $24.89

RPN, skin and wound care program coordinator: $28.60 rising 2 steps to $29.54

Skilled: $28.24 rising 2 steps to $29.16

RAI/Nursing quality assurance coordinator: $32.65 rising 2 steps to $33.72

Editor’s notes: Long-service pay: Due on Nov. 30 of each year. $80 per year from fifth to ninth anniversaries; $150 per year on tenth to fourteenth anniversaries; $220 per year from fifteenth to nineteenth anniversaries; $290 per year from twentieth to twenty-fourth anniversaries; $360 per year from twenty-fifth to twenty-ninth anniversaries; $430 per year from thirtieth anniversary and beyond. Access to personnel file: Upon giving 2 working days’ notice, employee will have opportunity to review contents of personnel file in presence of employer representative. Employee will be allowed to make copies of any documents contained at their expense ($0.10 per copy). Monday, Friday scheduling: After 30 years of full-time service, employee will be entitled to request to be scheduled on Monday-to-Friday basis. Standby: $2.40 per hour for period of standby scheduled by employer outside regular scheduled working hours (previously $2.25). Hearing aids: Maximum $500 lifetime.
