Renewal agreement: Effective July 1, 2019 to June 30, 2022. Signed on Sept. 19, 2019.

Wage adjustments:

Effective July 1, 2019: 2%

Effective July 1, 2020: 2%

Effective July 1, 2021: 2%

Shift premium: $0.51 per hour for all hours worked on afternoon shift in which half or more of hours worked fall between 6 p.m. and midnight. $0.66 per hour for all hours worked on afternoon shift in which half or more of hours worked fall between midnight and 6 a.m. $0.26 per hour for all hours worked on day shift for employees who begin day shift before 7 a.m. $0.50 per hour for coming into contact with raw sewage; $0.40 per hour while operating spray-painting equipment. Time and one-half for all hours worked which fall within 12-hour turn-around time for employees who start new shift within 12 hours of completing previous shift, including overtime. $0.10 per hour for each group of 2 further employees for maintenance 2 employees who supervise other employees. $1.25 per hour for lead-hands; head drivers; head custodians.

Paid holidays: 12 days; 10 days for 10-month employees.

Vacations with pay: Pro rata of 2 weeks to start, 3 weeks or 6% after 1 year, 4 weeks or 8% after 6 years, 5 weeks or 10% after 11 years, 6 weeks or 12% after 19 years. 1 additional week for employees after 16 years. Employees may carry over maximum 10 days into following year but unused days will be paid out on first payroll in July.

Overtime: Time and one-half for first 3 hours of overtime; double time thereafter. Double time for work on weekend or days of rest for all hours worked. Time and one-half for work on Sundays, when employee works on shift other than Monday to Friday. Time and one-half after 8 hours per day or 40 hours per week for work done by part-time or casual janitors on Saturdays for school or community activities. May be taken as time off in lieu of pay, maximum 10 days banked at any time. Banked time off not taken by May 15 will be paid out.

Meal allowance: $10 for employees who work more than 2 hours of overtime, plus 15-minute paid rest period (meal, hot if practicable, will be provided every 4 hours thereafter).

Medical benefits: Employer pays 90% of premiums, employee pays 10% of premiums for medical services plan.

Dental: Employer pays 77% of premiums, employee pays 23% of premiums.

Vision: Employer pays 82% of premiums, employee pays 18% of premiums. $550 biannually (previously $400 biannually).

Sick leave: 1.5 days for each month worked (unused leave will be carried forward and accrued to unlimited total).

AD&D: Employer pays 100% of premiums for coverage of $50,000.

Life insurance: Employer pays 100% of premiums for coverage of $50,000.

Pension: All employees will become members of municipal pension plan upon attaining eligibility to do so.

Bereavement leave: 5 days for death in family (spouse, child, father, mother, sister, brother, father-in-law, mother-in-law, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, grandparent, grandchild). 1 day for death of sister -in-law, brother-in-law, niece, nephew.

Seniority – recall rights: 36 months for employee who is laid off.

Call-in pay: Minimum remuneration of 4 hours’ pay at normal rates or actual numbers worked at appropriate overtime rate, whichever is greater.

Probationary period: 65 days worked or longer term as may be agreed between employer and union.

Safety shoes: $125 every 2 years for each employee required by WorkSafe BC to wear safety footwear.

Tool allowance: $200 per year for employee who supplies any tools which exceed $500 to perform assigned duties.

Editor’s notes: Permits: Tradespersons who utilize tickets for securing permits will receive $500 annual allowance, unless employees receive department head allowance.
